Thanks HDRA from a spectators view

We could'nt afford to race this one so we spectated it. I have been going to and racing in off road races since the late 70's and when we heard that it would be a pay spectator area I was'nt very excited BUT..BUT.. after getting there it turned out to be THE best race I have spectated 12 miles of coarse to watch ( plus a gnarly seperate bike race going at the same time) shaded COOLED areas to watch all the seperate races (as they enterd the clover leaf) monster vip, plenty of food and beverage booths, talking to the Iron man all I have to say is thanks Roger and crew.

If I had one wish it would be an announcer with who is leading and what lap they are on

Next race we will have speakers on the 80 foot light towers all the way down spectator ridge. George Antill had remote speakers in one of the spectator tents and a larger system at the finish ramp. We will also likely have a gnarly motorcycle hill climb that is very difficult to make. It will also be viewable from the ridge along with the extreme motorcycle enduro. We started working last week on preliminary plans for some big time concerts during the event that would be done festival style.

What an event!!! I've been to just about every off-road race in the US and Mexico and this event had the feel of a big time production from the get go!!!

Pre-running opened up the week-end before the race and upon finishing the pre-run we thought that the course was technical and rocky but relitively smooth. That Changed! The course became the most challenging course I have ever ran and it also became funner than I ever expected. If you had a chance to experience it you will never forget it!

Qualifying was next with all classes with more than 5 cars getting to qualify. From the spectator area high above the course you could see the entire qualifying lap and if you wanted you could park your truck on the ledge looking out with A/C running and enjoy. Later that night it was off to BaBinga for the Monster Party with Free food and drink and Monster girls!

Tech was awsome as you pulled into downtown for a car show type of event and Tech was brought to you! No pushing cars or trucks you got to hang out watch the Monster free style show, eat BBQ and walk around the street fair. Later that night was drivers meeting in the showroom which had reclining chairs (no sitting on floor or plastic seats) got to hear from Ivan Stewart and Rod Hall.

Race was a short drive out of Reno to a race team friendly main pit. The main pit was set up just off the asphalt road on a four lane graded road where your race car could get to you from several spots on the race course. With 1 chase truck you could cover your car at Mile 4, 16, 62 and 72, with the course being only 83 miles you were covered.

Spectating was great! we could sit at our pit and see cars all day long with out any down time.

HDRA did an amazing job pulling this off as they had to do it from scratch. I am sure that next year will be even better as all of the time that they spent just making this happen will be used to smooth off some of the rough edges.

H&M built, originally as a Prerunner, still has the frame rails under the cab, was the Temecula Motorsports TT owned by Jerry Larimore, then owned by Jason McNeil of FiberWerx. Current owner lives in Canada. Truck qualified sixth a couple of years ago at both SCORE Laughlin and SNORE Mint 400 against a lot of top TTs and Class 1 cars. I've race it a few times and it is not a bad truck - wheel base is a little long.

Since most people were in their cars/truck it may be cheaper to look at a low wattage fm transmitter. Then just post what freq to tune there car stereo on. Even a 1 or 2 watt system would work. I sure even the people in main could listen in.
