July 18th El Cajon Off-Road Car Show
This Wednesday July 18th El Cajon's weekly Hot Rod show is dedicated to Off-Road trucks & buggy's. Like years past they are doing a full Main Street Road Closure so you can walk up and down the street with the cars all lined up in the street. Last year the city would not give the full road closure due to the new Police Dept. (So they say) But this year the permit was granted.
In the years past the Motoworld parking lot has let you park your trailers and unload. Show hours are 5pm to 8pm, but many get there earlier than that to get a good spot & to get a table at the Downtown Cafe or Por Favor for dinner.

Re: July 18th El Cajon Off-Road Car Show
thanks todd. it's a good time and a nice blend that shows different ways to go through money like nobodies business. some of those hot rods are the bomb. thanks go out to the city of el cajon for allowing the show every week during the summer and to the hot rodders for sharing the stage so to speak. should a great way to spend some time looking at some great rides and supporting downtown el cajon business'. the el cajon police are always very cool as well cutting slack to rides that might not be exactly what you'd call street legal...hope to see a lot of off road folks there from racers and prerunners to rock crawlers and the jeep clubs exhibiting their rides along side some great looking hot rods..

Yes the police do cut a lot of slack. The guys from Competitive Metals brought both the 1600 car and 7 open truck and drove them on the street from the shop to the show. No trailers, just drove them on the street, they did have a lead car and follow behind car that were street legal. I dont suggest this, but they just cruised and the cops did not say anything.
When I was a little kid there were a few Cajon Speedway racers who had shops close to the speedway and would drive their race cars to the track and hopefully drive them back. If not the local tow company would tow them back.
Two years ago the TISCO crew brought the new Jimco TT which was just completed to the show. I wonder if any of the local shops will have anything new to bring?

i think the el cajon police are really cool. i drive my slightly less than legal prerun truck all the time and never even been pulled over. in fact a motor cycle officer who had been giving a ticket to someone right in front of the carwash i was at looked at me washing my truck and after giving the guy the ticket, started walking over to where i was with his ticket book in hand and just asked me if i would mind if he checked it out.. he said he had helped a team down in baja a few years back and was a real fan of desert racing..pretty soon a couple of patrol cars came by and they were cool too. i would imagine if someone acted the fool and started smoking the tires going sideways, they might act a tad different.
