Finishing & Winning Points for DNF ??????

Good question... We had to update one of our programs to correct this situation. Revised standings are now posted on www.hdrarace.com. The five bonus points are awarded only to 1st place when vehicle completes the required number of laps.

All starters receive one or more points. DNFs are awarded points based on number of cars in class, and number of laps completed before DNFing. Also... Total number of race laps required may be changed at the discretion of the Race Operations Director depending on race conditions.

Since we are on the points topic.... I was wondering why the "bonus" points are the same for each race. I believe that a short course race like redline at stateline should award less points than the fireworks 500 race. There should be bonus points for finishing a long race like the 500. Otherwise a team on a budget that is trying for a points champion spot would drop the long race to save a few coins. This could be incentive to get people to drive all the way up there to race. I have looked at the points chart and I don't see any added points for longer races. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Brandon... Interesting point (no pun intended) on variable bonus points depending on length of races. When the 2012 point system was developed the year-long schedule was incomplete and the 500 was not confirmed. Our goal was to keep the point system simple without a lot of "ifs" and buts".

As we move forward in planning for 2013, points awards will be one of the many areas that will be under review. Our goal is to make HDRA the most “racer friendly” series possible, and racer input and suggestions such as yours will certainly be considered. Thanks for your comments!

Just so its clear from now on, am I to understand if several racers do not complete there first lap you give results based on what position they started in? I know HDRA does not do check points and I have always completed at least a lap and understood it was based on how fast I got to that next lap not how far I went on that lap. But for this race you had 5 of the 7 racers did not complete the first lap. Two were broke before 33.7 MM redirect and 3 of us were still able to continue but after some communication errors 2 chose to get picked up at I-50. I went to pit B an additional 20 miles over next furthest. So even though I went 20 miles further then the next farthest guy because I started in last position my race result for points is last place? Those 4 additional points are pretty big leading up to next race. Instead of being in 7th with 5 & 6 tied in front of me by 1 point I would be in 5th with 3 point lead. Chris would just be 1 point less so instead of tied for second he be 1 point less since he went next furthest. Nick same thing 1 point less. lol not sure why im figuring that out, since we have not even cleared up how it is handled when no one completes first lap. The two guys that were tied with two points ahead of me prior to this race did not even do this race and still get to stay ahead does kind of suck, but like you said its first season and point system will be one of the discussions.
