2 Hours LIVE TORC Coverage Friday July 20th on SPEED at Chicagoland Route 66 Raceway!
INDIANAPOLIS (July 13, 2012) –If you can’t be there in person to witness all the Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL, action at Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 Raceway next Friday (July 20th) night, you’ll be pleased to know that the leader in motorsports television – SPEED Channel – will broadcast the two-hour TORC/Chicago event “Live” beginning at 9 p.m. EST.
Featuring announcers Leigh Diffey, Dorsey Schroeder, Matt Yocum and Keli Snyder, SPEED puts its industry-leading team on top of covering the amazing action of all four of TORC’s elite PRO divisions at Chicagoland Speedway, including PRO Buggy, PRO Light, PRO 2WD and PRO 4x4 – featuring defending class champion Ricky Johnson of Team Red Bull/KMC Wheels/Mopar/Ram.
“I couldn’t be more stoked about SPEED coming on board with TORC,” said Johnson. “Last year SPEED did a phenomenal job covering our event in Chicago, right down to the announcers’ efforts and the amazing camera angles. Everyone with TORC elevated their games knowing we were live on SPEED, and that’ll no doubt continue this year. As a driver – and a fan of short course off-road racing – you couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off the 2012 TORC season than with live coverage on SPEED.
“And on top of that the reality program, which gave TORC fans a never-before-seen view of short course off-road racing, is back this fall to bring together all of the action from each of the 2012 TORC rounds.”
Knowing “RJ” from the world of AMA Supercross & Motocross, fans of the two-wheel off-road sports and action sports in general will also get a kick watching Johnson’s teammate for the weekend, former SX/MX champ and action sports icon Travis Pastrana, who’s putting his formidable RallyCross driving skills to the test for the first time ever in a 900-horsepower, 4,000-pound TORC PRO 2WD class truck.
“I drive a lot of off-road vehicles. Nitro Circus has a trophy truck and I race and pre-run Baja regularly in anything I can get my hands on. But I'm really looking forward to getting into a race scenario with that much power and so many jumps,” said Pastrana. “I've done a Pro-2 event a few years back, but the track was very easy and boring. They say the Chicago TORC race is pretty technical, and after a short test at Glen Helen (Raceway, the SoCal MX facility), I already have an ear-to-ear grin!”
The second of two 2012 TORC events broadcast “Live” on SPEED (the first being another NASCAR venue for TORC, Charlotte Motor Speedway in April), Chicago Route 66 Raceway drew a sizable crowd last year for the live event on SPEED – won by Johnny Greaves (PRO 4x4), Bryce Menzies (PRO 2WD) and Casey Currie (PRO Light).
“Traxxas TORC’s partnership with SPEED and our two ‘LIVE’ broadcasts from the Charlotte and Chicago NASCAR venues have not only been ground-breaking for the sport of short course off-road racing, the Prime Time events will no doubt prove to be a publicity windfall for both the TORC Series and its competitors. TORC couldn’t be more pleased with its new partnership with SPEED,” added USAC/TORC President Kevin Miller.
Bridging the gap between action sport and motorsports, Traxxas TORC Series short course off-road truck racing delivers an edge that’ll certainly win over the NASCAR fans at the TORC event at Route 66 Raceway. With radical jumps, stutter bumps and berms built high above the existing clay dirt track, this year’s “LIVE” coverage on SPEED will no doubt endear legions of NASCAR and Late Model fans to this stadium setting Baja-style off-road event!
