We are heading in on Wednsday morning to see the race. From what I have heard it will pass through San Felipe. At worst case they almost always go by Mikes Sky Ranch so we can catch them there Its not to far from where we will be staying. Can't wait to ge there.

Re: Score Baja 1000 Race Days?

The race is not likely to go anywhere near Mike's Sky Ranch this year. It's a peninsula run and should come out to the highway somewhere north of Vally T and pound pavement to San Matias - most likely. The route has not been announced but expect the typical San Felipe route to La Paz this year, no Mikes loop, no Summit.
It's not about how much faster you can go, it's about how much longer you can go faster.

i agree..i'd be surprised if the course was too much different than 2010.

We were thinking it will do the San Felipe route (which is becoming more paved down past Puertocitos) or go to Valle T and head back to the Pacific side like 2007.... Both routes have lots of pavement but that seems to be the trend these days.

I went to Gonazaga Bay last week. Pavement goes down to about 5-7 miles before Gonzaga, a few more miles of pavement than 2010, but a lot of the old non-paved road is still there off to the side. Would be nice if they made the extra effort to move the race off the pavement there as much as possible.

That's cool they left the old road. I haven't been down there in a few years so didn't know about the dirt road next to the new one! That's at least some good news!

I should clarify....they left sections of the old road. Most probably wouldn't be feasible to use in the race because they're short sections and the new highway just cuts straight through like a dollar sign $, some so that they're not even accessible. But once you're through the rocky part onto the long straight stretches, the old road could be usable for the race.
