    Cambur change

    Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if people could give me their opinion on my new suspension design for our new class 1 buggy. I have designed it all and when I put it through its travel it shows 23 inches of travel. For the last 4 inches of droop it changes to 3 degrees POSITIVE cambur. At full compression it is 11 degrees NEGATIVE, which I am really happy with, but I'm a little worried about the positive cambur at droop. What is everyones opinion on this?

I was thinking that when the car is unloaded with not much weight that it wouldn't be a huge concern, but I just would like to get opinions on it.

    Thanks heaps in advance.

    Cheers
    Luke

Sounds like an I-beam truck........ Hard on the sidewalls and easier to tip over. Drop the inner pivot on the upper arm and make it a little longer.........

Plot out you pivot point so we can see what you're working with. What spindles and wheels are you using?

Wouldn't you want to move the inner UCA pivot up?
Just walk away. I will give you safe passage in the Wasteland. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer.----The Lord Humongous

Yes in theory... It could be a short upper arm. That is why I think that plotting out the pivot points would be the best way to avoid any miscommunication.

    Re: Cambur change

Thankyou for all your help already guys. I have attached an image of the car at ride height for you all. We are using 15" x 7" Method wheels and 35" x 12.5" tyres.

    Looking forward to the discussion.

    Thanks again everyone

    Re: Cambur change

At a glance it doesn't look that far off. It does look like a ton of steering axis inclination, which is why I was curious about the spindles. If you could, please put some dimension on the drawing. I will do a quick SW sketch and play with it.

    Re: Cambur change

Thanks heaps Mark. It is pretty close to how I want it, just the bottom 4ish inches of droop annoys me. I wanted a large kingpin inclination because I wanted it to intersect the centre of the tyre to aid the steering. I have attached another image... the only dimensions this doesn't have is the bottom arms are mounted 100mm apart, the top arms are mounted 200mm apart and the distance between the upper and lower arms is 300mm.

Thanks again.. have to love off roading. No matter if its here or over there, everyone loves to jump in and help out.

    Cheers

    Re: Cambur change

Seems real close, how about raising the rack 1/4" to 3/8" higher, leave mount points for arms where they are and fine tune with rack location. ??? Just a thought.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for that mate... You will have to excuse my ignorance, but will raising the rack a bit change the positive camber at droop or just aid with steering? I didn't know if the steering arms helped control the arc through the travel? Just asking so I can understand better... Im here to learn haha
