    Re: Let's hear your story!

    Story for us......
We showed up on Friday and got set up. My dad took the car out to just see how the fresh motor performed and we got about 100 yards down the road and it started missing. Found a fouled plug. Then while changing plugs 2 wires fell apart. Thanks to Pierside Parts for giving us a set of plugs and wires we got the enigine running great. Then, I tool the car to give it a shake down and the suspension was WAY WAY wrong. Teched the car and came back to the pit and got to work. Finally around 9pm we got it handling the way it should. A huge thanks goes out to ANJ Motorsports #1649 , Pierside Parts and Mark Burke for all the help!
Race Day....We left the line 4th and car was running and handling great! Lap 1 went great in a great battle with Nate. We hit the 35 mph zone nose to tail. we got into the college hills and about mm 8ish flattened the left rear tire. Drove it out of the hill to the road crossing at mm 11 to meet chase with the tire. Chase did a great job with the tire change and we got back out on the road in about 12th. Thank you to Tony and Gabe as well as 920's crew for getting the tire changed in a hurry.
Pitted at the end of lap 2 for fuel, water and look over the car. I can't thank our crew enough....that was an awesome pit stop. Probably best ever!
Got back on the road to start lap 3 and trying to play catch up. Lap 3 went great Car was handling great and the fresh motor was screaming......until.....we are not sure exactly what happend but the oil light came on at the end of lap 3. Pulled into main had them check the oil. It was full. so we took off to start lap 4 but the engine started making some noise so we turned around and went back to the pit. We found that there was no oil pumping at all. So with a broken oil pump we decided to call it a night.

Very disappointing but even racing half a race is better than never racing at all.

Congrats to all the finishers, that course was rocky and super dusty!

Everything got put in perspective for me later that evening on my drive home when I heard the news about our friend Ron Bechard. Everyone at Kaveman Motorsports mourns the passing of a friend and our hearts our with Hollie, Dalton and Skyler.

    920's Story
Went out to test lights on Friday night made some adjustments but had some shock issues total fade after about a mile. I had just rebuilt all four shocks so it was very puzzling. Checked shocks on Saturday rebound and comp on the correct sides of the piston (Made that mistake before lol) checked ifp for proper dept still could not figure it out. Should have kept it on the trailer and saved the prep but decided to just cruise it though the race. Bad choice, knocked a valve cover lose lost all oil. Beat the piss out of the bottom of the car and me. Called it quits after being lapped by the leaders. We lost in the garage again. Very disappointing for us maybe next time.

    Re: Let's hear your story!

Well it was a long night.. Off the line the car felt really strong and what i thought was going to be a great night for us.. getting in to the whoops right after the first road crossing on the first lap I realize it was a little soft but still drivable. I run a decent pace the first and second lap just trying to get around.. going out on the third is when the front end had enough, extremely to soft and was hitting the stops on everything..
While driving the car like that for another two laps i start to feel really sick but i keep truckin.. i finally reach the finish and start to laugh realizing, "I made it".. After tearing the front end apart yesterday, I came across broken torsion springs. I went to softer Springs after ridgecrest, which was a bad idea and I regret. So I will go back to the setup I ran up their and with a little tuning and we will be back even better than we ran at ridgecrest. (the first two laps) haha. I want to thank my sponsors and the 923 team of Brian Caudill and Matt Pino for the support.. I want to thanks my friends and family who deal with my obsession and support me every single step of the way. I couldnt do it with out you guys..

Well I stunk it up this race.. Got a slow start in the 992 car and couldnt find a groove.. later lap 1 I had to force a driver change when I got sick near end of the lap and had to get out.. Giti hopped in and was running consistant lap times until we had a tranny go south and ended the night early..

My buddies pulled out my 911 car and had a good first lap, but had a collsion with 903 early and on lap two broke the BJ's ending thier day too.. anyone find a spindle/drum etc about mm23 let me know..

First to the winners, Jimmy & Ian nice job coming from the back awesome race. Thanks to Jimmy for pumping up this race and to all the racer's that came to play, cool event.
Thanks to Skyler Gambrell for helping get the car ready and driving the last three laps, with limit 9 car seat time he knocked out some clean laps.

The race story: Jimmy & Ian went faster than us..... and second sucks.

I do think I jumped over the orange and white 10 car. They were slow/broke coming out of the college I was trying to pass and hit some BIG whoops, when the flashing spots went away I was still on the gas and in fornt of them. LOL Thank you DeCell.

    Re: Let's hear your story!

    Well…..
We tested and dialed our car on Wednesday, we had a hard time tuning the motor and the carburetor until we find out we had a bad coil so by the end of the day we rolled the car race ready to the trailer with no brakes but suspension and jetting done, we finished installing new brakes Friday late at night loaded up Saturday morning and drove to Barstow, we got to Barstow at 2:00 pm thinking we were ready to go and what a surprise when the motor worked really bad when we took the car out of the trailer.
Played with the jets until we felt the car better.
I started the first half of the race and the car was so soft, couldn’t control the car, no power , I started 17th by top of the hills by the college I was like 23rd, mile 8 the shifter got loose and I got stock on the sand because couldn’t shift down to 1st ,got out and keep on going got to main pit and they adjust the clutch and gave 1 turn to the torsion bars, took off and car works a little bit better by mile 20 got a flat and thanks to the big help from the guys 1489 we were back and running 4 minutes latter , by the 3rd lap the suspension works REALLY BAD, I did the 3rd lap in 2nd gear because the car couldn’t handle 3rd gear ,at driver change the guys put 2 turns and more nitrogen on the shocks and the car work big time better so my brother Jorge finished the race with no more problems, because I got way behind the first 3 laps he couldn’t finish his 6th lap on time and gave us 8th place.
I have to thank Jimmy Taranto and all the guys who work hard to put this race together, It was a great race.
Special Thanks to Mike Cote for that great help we always get from him, Doug Silcock for the support and front suspension, Rulo Solano and all the guys from ORAF for setting up the car, Ruben Garcia @ sport line motorsports for the motor and special for been there to help us, Ventura for the awesome gear box, RX pit support and all the people who help at the pits, my son Brian and Dariel for been there since the day we start pre-ing the car until the race was over, My brother for his excellent driving skills, Bryan Johnson and Steven Fuentes the best co-drivers we ever had, my wife for letting play with my hot wheeler and my friends, and Ray Fuentes for the best pit support ever, always willing to help no matter how late it gets his always out there in the middle of no were waiting for the last car.
We will see you guys out there the next race!!!

As Steve said..... Congrats to the 996 crew! We got beat, straight up. I got the split time at Hodge on the last lap that he was a minute up on time. I tried to hammer down and get that minute back but it was too little too late.

Thanks to Steve for letting me drive his car, I have very limited seat time driving a 9'er and was glad to be in the hunt, and not destroy the car!

    Re: Let's hear your story!

979 had an uneventful race as well. This was my first time to Barstow, after prerunning a lap I knew it was going to be a rough SOB. Found some good lines and felt confident if we could keep the car intact we would do ok. After the start of lap 1 around mile 3 I noticed the car would not pull the soft and the car was flooding out and had to stop a couple times. Ended up doing the rest of the lap on limited power. Got the car going again for lap 2 and the brake master cylinder took a dump right off the bat and had to do the rest of the race brakeless. Lap 3 had a flat and we ended up finishing 5 of 6 laps. Barstow kicked my cars ass literally, chunks of my skid pan are missing and pretty sure I have a cracked motor case. Gained some good experience as always doing a race and look forward to giving Barstow another go in the future. Congrats to the Winner/ Finishers!
