Re: Let's hear your story!
First off i like too thank Bud Ward and his whole family for thier hospitality....Bud started 12th,by the time they came out of the collage hills the gained 6 positions and was 2 mins out of the lead.lap 2 comming out of the collage hills again bud got a flat, thanks too uncle John and his team they got it changed in a hurry, lap 3 bud pulled in too pull off the light covers,on lap 4 me and my dad heard over the radio from bud saying somthing was wrong with the front end, they said the leafs were walking out of the lower left arm, when they got to us we proceded with the driver change, come too find out the lower right arm stop sheared off,so bud and the whole crew changed it in a flash they all did a great job getting it done, when they finally got it changed out,i went to start the car and it wouldnt fire,so they pulled the coil wire off the distributor and thier was no spark,so we switched the coil and the car fired immediately,so me and my dad took off on our first lap witch was full of dust, second lap while over on the plateau at hodge we called into bud too see what the time was he replyed by saing it was 12:45 am,sadly we didnt make the cut off time so me and my dad couldnt go onto our last lap,so we finished 11th,but oh well thats racing thou I had fun,my dad had fun,and bud and everyone else had fun and thats what counts the most.I would like too thank M.O.R.E. for putting on a great race,I would like too thank Bud Ward and his friends and family for teaming up with us for this race,I hope we get the chance too team up again.ill be seeing everyone at the next race.

Yes to 6 quarter sized blisters.... no to sore muscles. I have a great massage therapist.

No, actually I feel great! The MORE 500 was my first race with my d-cell and WOW what a difference! These last two races are the first time since I've been racing that my neck hasn't been sore at all. My car is probably set up softer than most so that helps too.

Re: Let's hear your story!
TDP Motorsports #904 started the day off with a 7:30 am, woke up by grandpa. Mixed up the am with pm, but it was great that he drove out to spend some time with us. Set up the shade, radios, and hydrated while my father figured out the 35 mph speed limit.
Now to the my first night race ever...
Dennis Petersen (father) started the race 18th in class, car stalled out just before the end of the 35 mph zone and a hand full of times the remainder of the lap, becoming a frustrating problem at the beginning. Not knowing what was causing this problem he stopped at miles 20, 22.5, and 27.5 trying to figure things out. Frustrated and thinking it was a carb issue he pulled into our main pit with the crew ready to change a carburetor. Drivers change due to frustration, topped off with fuel, and changes made to carb, I finished the first lap of the day in 24th (last) and 40+ min behind the leaders.
Knowing we were a long ways out and the carb still flooding out, I was out for seat time and having fun.
Lap 2 was our fastest lap of the day bringing us up to 17th.
Lap 3 stopped for fuel not knowing how much we were dumping out the overflow and picked up 4 more spots (13th).
Lap 4 the goal was top 10 and eventful when I found a rock in the dust near mile 5 and was looking at the clear night sky.
Lap 5 I started to get a little more focused knowing the potential point leader (Mike Brown) was 2 cars and 5 minutes ahead.
I made my big mental mistake of the night, got lost after the Hodge pit crossing around mile 28.5 and realized it when I was driving backwards on course around mile 24. Drove back to 28.5 and went back to work. I know I lost road position to #968 (Mike Goltz), but I passed someone at mile 30.
Lap 6 passed 968 just after the ant hill (about mile 3) and after he showed me the nice design on the side of the car, good save. After this I was focused off in the distance on 920's tail lights. Made some momentum and finally passed Brown around mile 20.5 and attempted to race the clock home.
And as it shows, didn't make it back in time, so things returned back to lap 5.
Thanks to Jim and the MORE family for putting on a really fun coarse. Congrats to the winner #996 Jimmy Taranto, 2nd #988 Steve Lang, and 3rd #987 Nate Himmelrick. Thanks to all the swingers that made it out to race, this was a fun night and reminder that we can have big numbers in the desert like I remember watching as a kid from the LaRana days.
I really want to thank all the support from friends and family. The pit crew who goes anywhere and is ready for anything (Darol, Matt, Craig, Hollywood, Toby, Aaron, Robert, Kendall) and Ashlleigh, Katie, Chandra for keeping times and radios in line. Thanks to My father for prepping a tank that can go through everything and building a motor that goes (minus the carb), LOL, Car Craft of Riverside for the trans prep, and Rigid Industries for the hook-up on the LED lights, without you we would not have raced this night race.
Sorry if I forgot any else.

Wow, this sounds familiar, same lap, same area that's way too funny. My experience was just a little more controversial than yours!

Re: Let's hear your story!
I was reading about it on the race talk website. I do agree with your point that you made about being the worse coarse cutter if you are losing positions or time. But on a serious note, for my first time driving at night, after getting passed and driving through dust dust messes with your mind so much you rely on course markers that are just not there that late in the race. We don't have a GPS in the car to help for times like this.

Re: Let's hear your story!
Your very welcome Randy. It was a lot of work preparing two cars but we made it and had a good run as a team. You took some convincing, but we made it and ran hard with the best.

Re: Let's hear your story!
Yes mike you are my life time friend and the closest thing that I ever had as a brother :-) . When the decision was made to run two cars there was only one choice for me as my teammate. You are the fastest n smoothest and most underrated thing in the dez. ;-0 . I would like to say for the team ( Randy Ward, Marc Crosina, Mike Moslander aka. big Mike/ hot racing, Britney Ward) it was great to have you back! Your lovley wife Melony and son Justin (newbies) they were awsome! What a team!!
