I'm not sure where you are getting your info from. The 500 race this year was held on May 19th. While the Chili course does share some of the same sections as the 500 did, they are not the same course. The 2012 Chili race start/finish line is on Camp Rock Road, whereas the 500 didn't even run that area this year. The 500 lap speeds for Class 1 were in the high 60s (67mph if I remember correctly).
Compare the maps:
2012 500 = http://moreracing.net/files/maymap.pdf
with
2012 Chili = http://moreracing.net/files/2012cookoff.pdf
Again, if you want a good prediction on times, look at the results of the 2011 race in May. Its the same course, run in the same direction.![]()
I gotta get out there to prerun...times are really fast...obviously a fast area in either case.

Is prerunning allowed? I was going to check it out this weekend.
I believe the majority of the area is an open OHV area...

It is all open OHV. Alot of people are out there on the weekends. OHV sticker is a good idea.
-For rules questions you may want to contact the organizer MORE/SNORE for clarification
-The course is in an open BLM managed OHV area in fact a lot of it are the threatened areas we stand a great chance of losing, you may want to consider that and get involved...
-Since it's an open OHV area any recon should be done in a safe and mature manner as the eyes of big brother are always watching the off road community and people are always out there on the weekends.
-Lucerne is a little less hammered than Barstow but don't think it's a flat footed area based on the lap times. Rough, fast and nasty with everything from lake beds to shale rocky sections and whoops; it will bite you when you don't expect it. Kinda like Parker IMO...
Good luck to all the racers!
Anyone get the gps? Link not working on the more site

Right click on the GPS link and choose "Save File As" or "Save Linked File As" or "Save Link As" or whatever it says (different OS and browsers have different options) and it should work.

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.
