Time out box would be a good idea Bobylax except for the logistical nightmare. Us Pit captains have enough to keep track of without having to manage that. Casey has a tough problem here because course workers have a long enough day as it is, but safety needs to be job one.

I hear you! I was a pit Capt. at pit 3 at the '08 V2R. Walked 20 miles back and forth along the pit row!!! I was thinking an additional volunteer per pit, or officials from start, early pits or checks, that could do it, as you would only need to do it for the last 6 or 8 pits. If they're caught by pit 5 or 6, chances are they've timed out. I know I'm just spitballing here, but thought I'd throw it out there to see if it had any merrit.

time out, PERFECT idea.....but you dont get ANY time back if your caught....the checkpoint guy that pulls you to the side for the top 20 to go by is saving your life, and that is the BONUS you get!

Yes everyone wants to race and I have raced a utv ( one of the slowest in the field )
I have been caught and have moved and waited I also have pulled off and not.continued due to my safety and not to mess up
the lead pack (silver state last year)
The utv class is the only factory backed class right now With polaris,John Deere,can-am and artic cat . We need them in the sport it is just a smaller version of the late 80's early 90's . They are also faster than most think I know this for fact.
Casey can start the TT's and class1 cars a true 4 hours from the last utv to go off the line NOT 3 hours after the first bike goes off the line that would give some more room.
I agree about not being to a certin pit at a certin time also. Pull them all off quads bikes and UTV's I would most likely be on
e of them I can live with it due to safety
The last thing.I want to see is someone hurt or worse. I hate to see.more work for us on the FAST-aid board
As for the TT guys and the class 1 guys you all need to make a group call to Casey and voice.your concerns and maybe say "hey we are.not showing up to race due to SAFETY concerns and see how fast things change
As for stating spots in the pack they should be behind the 1600 cars(2000's) most of them are just.as fast and have more wheel travel
So flame on.

Stopping and holding caught utvs for an hour say and then let them go might work. What about the leader on the road who has to safely pass them and gets delayed while rest chasing him don't have to deal with utvs that have then been pulled off? Tough deal to work out and wouldn't want to be in Casey's shoes on this one!

How about this: START THE TT'S AND CLASS 1'S AT DAYBREAK. Then, start the bikes 2 hours later and then start everyone else 2 hours after that.
Also, put the UTV's in their appopriate starting position relative to average speed. If the vehicles/drivers are not capable of successfully navigating the course when it is torn up, then they ought to not show up.
