Quick update before I head out of town. Jason did a quick shake down of the truck and he determined that the motor is sick, or at the very least needs some love. I know 'caveat emptor'...blah, blah, blah. The trans is an unknown and/or questionable and the rear end is leaking and we don't really know what we have in it for axles, etc. As I said before caveat emptor. Hmmmm....$$$$ Sooo...Super Wrench JS is going to pull the whole pile out of the truck and drag it back to Kroyer's/Gear Works for some MAJOR love on his way to V2R tech/contingency. We have V2R next, so it might be a little while before the next update, but things are starting to get fun! Woot...woot!
Quick update! J got the 3rd member, C6 and engine to Kroyer's last Thursday. So we are making progress. We had a great conversation with Sandy Cone and he might be able to help us with our hubs, axles and rear housing. We hope to get our fuel cell and seats ordered soon. It looks like we are going to need to take this pile all the way down to the frame and build it back up. Uggg...but in the end it will likely be the right and easier thing to do.
Another pic of the disassembly process. Jason has ripped out the rear end, drive shaft, rear springs, motor, tranny, front fenders and most of front suspension. We are currently in the process of locating 1-ton front beams, so we can run the hubs (Cone) that we want on the front. It will be tricky, because the front 1/2 ton beams were purposely twisted to increase camber. We want to recreate this on the 1-ton beams, but it won't be easy to do, plus make the same on both sides.
We will be sand blasting part of the body before it heads over to CR Designs http://www.crdesigns.com (602) 882-5161, for paint. If you don't know CR Designs, Chad has painted a very high percentage of the Geiser Trophy Trucks that are out there and he is a magician on Victory's, Harleys, Hot Rods, RZR's, helmets, etc.
Pyrotect has also come on board as a sponsor of the Beer Hauler. The fuel pumps that I ordered arrived yesterday and they were just shipped off to Pyrotect, so they can start building the 50 gallon, aluminum fuel cell. We will be mounting the fuel dual fuel pumps in the tank, hung from the fill plate. http://www.pyrotect.com/home.php?cat=38 You might not immediately equate Pyrotect with fuel cells, but my understanding is that the owner of Pyrotect used to own Fuel Safe. I believe that the Camburg Trophy Truck has a Pyrotect fuel cell in it.
Yes, Pyrotech is located in Bend Oregon. They will also be building the bladder for Challenger IV. Also, yes, the same guys that had Fuel Safe years ago and also ran a class 6 Chevy Camero (Russell Brothers) are the same guys who have expanded the Pyrotech line into fuel cells.....not new to the sport OR the art of building fuel cells. Matt, I remember you saying something about your truck possibly being owned by Michael Gaughan way back in the day but I just was told by Brendan Gaughan that he is now the proud owner his dads old prerunner, looks alot like your though. Good luck with the build, can't wait to see more progress!
