what type of oil pan do you run. I have a custom kevko racing pan on mine. built in windage tray and flapper plates in btm. very nice pan. Mine is a mid sump for mountains and extreme angles. kevko makes a nice rear sump for your application. only problem with any oil pan check your crank clearance to pickup tube. most shops mock up off a cleveland and they are only 3.5" stroke and maybe a 3.85" stroke at most. verify crank to pickup tube clearance on any 400 ford windage tray in rear sump application. MPG heads builds a windage tray and crankscraper works nice for cleveland 351. suppose to work on 400 but stroke of crank has issues, fab work is a must make fit and longer bolts. real pain! like mpg windage/crankscraper on big block is awesome kevko pan a lot simplier. I'm in www.fordtruck enthusiast site. wyoming4x4 is my name and have many photos in my albums of the 400 cobrajet build if curious. i use my build for other 400 guys and reference off my photos. lots of photo and probably the very first few edelbrock airgap 400 in the country at this time. really like the air gap intake in my 4wds and they pull out to 6000 rpm well especially if they are worked and ported to cobra jet heads. air gap has lots of potential and a very broad torque range compared to a single plane. Not sure of you rpms you normally run. mine is rollered and many mods. mine will not be turning rpms like your application, its a driver and light towing if needed. ZF 5pseed tranny behind, custom flywheel mods to make this happen, wanted overdrive tranny for fuel mileage. from what out their chi heads are top notch. mpg heads knows these head and have port programs for these. scott/mpg heads has run 400 at enginemaster challenge and jon kasse ran a 400 ford jon kasse racing. badazz dudes. $100,000.00 buck on the line and show up with 400 fords are they crazy. jon kasse won that paticular year with his extreme 400 laughing all the way to the bank.

chi heads sells a intake system to match their heads in 400 application. very nice piece but kinda tall? might be a issue for your application but can be milled down a little to fit, hood clearance. would have to talk to scott on what you can get away with.

at this time I am doing a zf tranny upgrade. 5 speed tranny 4wd for a 460 going into a 400. the 400 will bolt up but need to run thicker flywheel and bushing it out. spline contact at input shaft not enough contact and have to move everything towards tranny. 400 didn't run a hyd clutch setup, thinner flywheels. ZF has a hyd clutch system need thicker flywheel. 12 mpg isn't hard to do with nice carb and annular boosters carb, 33" tire, c-6 tranny hughes converter 3.73 gears. the past 2 yrs been playing with the 400's pretty hard. my big blocks just run and don't mess with anymore. been running quickfuel carbs and having very good luck in my 4wd application. I have extreme elevation issues and cold weather and really messes with my downleg carbs. so annular boosters help solve this problem, spreads the fuel out and changes from a liquid to a vapor better. what type is your truck carb or injected?? new truck is a 400 with 4.10gears and 33" and weight right around 5000lbs ZF 5 speed hoping for 15mpg if everything works out. triming the fat on this old girl.

He said some kind of 351w intake with a custom spacer plate that he welds on and ports to match the heads,RPMs are the problem with these big holes.
