Cage it. Hard question to answer without knowing what year make and model truck, and about what your budget is.

STEEEKERS!!
Buy one already built. You can pick up a proven truck cheaper than you can build one in this economy

Build a "pre-runner" come to some races, get your feet wet. Start helping a team for a year or two. Build a real race truck a year after that..... rebuild that truck, sell it and then build/buy a complete "race" vehicle.... then get burned out and either get out of the scene or better yet stay on RDC and become the world's greatest internet racer.

It wasn't intended to be a full on race vehicle right away. that was just the goal to be reached over time.

I have been chasing and pre-running with a class 1 team for some years.

Re: Building a 1450 race truck
Have you asked them what they suggest? While at the races have you looked around at what others are building? Like others have said, you're better off buying something already built or picking up something at least partially started. I'm probably about 1/2 way thru a full build right now of a build and it's not an easy project. It's almost annoying now every time I see race ready trucks built and ready to go for under $20K!
