Does your Ford have a Chevy motor in it?

Re: Building a 1450 race truck
Its definitely a buyers market right now and there are plenty of Sportsman trucks going for cheap compared to what they would cost to build, advantage you. On the other hand if you build your own truck youre going to know the ins and outs from top to bottom and have it just the way you want it. I traded my buggy for a truck and its currently down to the frame and cagework getting some modifications to my own liking. Just have to sit back, make a budget, triple it, and then decide what you want to do.

I haven't noticed what the entry levels are like lately but honestly at one point it sure seemed like the best bang for your buck was jeepspeed! Race ready jeeps were selling for around $10K for a bit and there was 20+ entries at any given race. Not sure if it's still like that but might be worth checking out. Don't let the video of them bouncing down the road scare you off, sit inside and you'll have a 100% different opinion on what they're capable of. With a jeepspeed you'd be class 2000 HDRA legal also.
Heck mentioned it and I'll comment on it too. You're here in Vegas also so you're fairly central to the HDRA series. They have a class 2000 which I would think is pretty appealing to anyone starting out with a truck to race. The rules keep it pretty entry level friendly and it'll make a good stepping stone into 1450 in my opinion.
FYI, I work a full 40 hours at my job, then I typically put in a MINIMUM of another 20 hours on the truck but typically more. Last night for instance, I had a 6:30 dinner date. I welded on it from 4:30-6pm, showered and hauled ass out the door, got back home around 7:50 and was back in the garage by 8pm welding again till I went to bed. That's pretty much the norm for me but if we want to race it's gotta get done. I guess what it comes down to is how bad do you want to race? Either have the money to buy outright or have the money to build and the drive to actually build one. It's not easy!

Take the 20 hours you would be working on the truck each week, and instead work extra/overtime or even get a second job. Use that extra money to buy a truck. That truck is composed of hundreds of parts, and you will get every last one of them for over 50% off!
Just walk away. I will give you safe passage in the Wasteland. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer.----The Lord Humongous

and by the time you are done building it (yes i know they're never done) you will have to change it because , ,....... you just will .
as Casey says in every drivers meeting "if they caught you you're already passed on time" move over
