hello my name is chase, and i have a dream.

hello my name is chase, and i have a dream.

My name is chase simonson, I am a senior in highschool and live in puyallup Washington, I have been racing since my fourth birthday, I was born into a racing family and am an exeptionaly good driver for my age. Unlike most drivers that started young I didn't get to racequarter midgets trophy karts or shifters, my dad is a fabrication and mechanical genius, he built our vehicle with adjustable steering and extendable pedals. I have never raced anything without a v8 . Now I build and continue to race off road vehicles (mainly short course and desert) with my father . We currently run a blue jeep tj in the jeepspeed class. I have been an apprentice fabricator since age 9 and have already built my own vehicle at age 17 with no external help. I joined race dezert to keep up on news but mostly for advice and information about how to slowly take myself out of racing for just a hobby. I dream and want badly to work my way with blood sweat an iron to the big leagues and race for a living. My parents give there full support an enxourage me to go for it .I dont have a large bankroll to support my dream and i am willing to do whatever it takes to archive my goals. Driving is my life and my passion. If anybody has any tips or help for me to make my dream a reality, it would be greatly appreciated . I plan on moving out to the desert after school is out to work somewhere I can make some money for daily life and would be more than ecstatic to help in a Fab or race shop. I intend to acquire as much knowledge about the sport as I can. So that's my dream, and my story, thank you.

Welcome to the forums! Keep your eye on the prize and don't give up, anyone can do it if they really want it bad enough. Sounds like you're already on the right path of trying to get your foot in the door and knowing that you need to learn and looking for people to learn from.

    Good luck...

    I seen that coming!

The only advice I can give you is keep listening to your father. I know your 18 and probably think you know everything but your father will always know more from experience. I have a soon to be 18 year old son that has fabricated with me building his Baja and has raced a 9 car as well as navigated for me in our 5 car and sometimes he likes to show me just how smart he is and just how much more he knows than me. Then reality sets in.

Good Luck on your dream and never give up on it.

    If I were You,
I would Send My resume, portfolio & samples to the all the shops in California, Nevada & Arizona. Follow the Resume up with phone calls, When Your on the phone schedule time to go to these shops ( meet & greet) when Your in the area for a race. Make it a point when You are at Contingency to go around and make contacts. You want Your name & face to be on the minds of the Shop Owners when a space opens up.

Be willing to show up early (sober) and leave late, Come to work each week with a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter. Never shy away from added duties Your boss may ask of You ( trust Me, Your reactions will be remembered) Be the first one to lend a hand to a co-worker and the last one to speak Your Mind.

"To be a good Leader, One must First be a good Follower"

Here's what My Old man told Me when I started My Job:
Keep Your Eyes & Ears Open, Your Mouth shut
Learning comes from Seeing, Hearing & Doing. Not from talking about it.

    Good Luck

    Excellent advice!!!!!!!!!
I would add that at your young age of 18, I would suggest staying in school and get a degree or vo-tech training to validate your skills. Yes, there are a lot of good fabricators out there without formal training, but showing a fab shop your welding certs, or cnc training, or ? couldn't hurt.

Yes stay in school. If you can make good money it will make it easier to afford racing.
