Just cause I'm cynical... An "expert" or a "salesman" with a "sales pitch"?

I've never had problems just drinking plain ole water days in advance and day of any endurance style dirt bike races and I'm not an "athlete" in my opinion!

    Re: Hydration

My name is Vipe and I’m the founder of HDX Hydration Mix. I’m new to this Forum but wanted to add some thoughts to this thread.

Regardless of if some drivers think of themselves as athletes or not, without a doubt, off-road racers endure some of the most grueling elements out there. Heat, long hours in their trucks, need for focus, etc. All these play a critical role in whether or not you’ll podium or even finish. All serious racers put lots of time, money and energy into making sure their trucks are up-fitted with the best engine, suspension, equipment, etc but the most important piece of equipment is the human body. Without the body being properly conditioned, it wont matter how much you spend on your truck. Many people know the importance of hydration but don’t understand the need for a nutrition strategy that includes the proper foods and the amount of fluids to take in.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should eat your energy and drink your hydration. That’s a simple but clear rule of thumb that works for every level of athlete. Eating food allows the stomach to slowly process and distribute the energy to keep you going from one meal to the next. Hydration is important to help get those nutrients in your food flowing to the right places throughout your body and keeping the blood and oxygen flowing. I would liken it to gas and oil to run your truck. Once the gas runs out you have to refill it, and oil helps the critical parts operating smoothly.

During intense heat, dehydration can accelerate and that changes the viscosity of the blood. Once this happens its much tougher for nutrients, oxygen and blood to flow smoothly and properly and the effects can be headaches, jitters, fatigue and lack of focus and that means you’re off your game.

We created HDX Hydration Mix with people like Off-Road racers in mind. We wanted to provide a simple but healthy solution to keep people hydrated in whatever activity they were participating. Our balanced blend of electrolytes, vitamins, amino acids and minerals can help keep you hydrated during intense conditions. If you’re serious about racing and getting on the podium we highly recommend working with a sports trainer and nutritionist so you can learn how to condition your body with a proper nutrition strategy. I guarantee this will be well worth it and will help keep you racing longer, recover quicker and before you know it you’ll be the one on the podium.

Thanks for letting me share a few thoughts and I hope this has helped. I’ll keep a close eye on this thread and chime into any questions that come in as well.

    Agreed...

    Funny~

Coach Klein: Gatorade not only quenches your thirst better, it tastes better too.
Bobby Boucher: No, you people are drinkin the wrong water.

    Coach Klein: Gatorade.
    Bobby Boucher: H2O.

My Department says that personnel should be drinking a Quart an Hour thats 2 average water bottles an hour to stay hydrated. 48 bottles in 24 hours (2cases of water a day). Theres more to hydration, you need to monitor your urine color and yes caffeine dehydrates you and too much electrolytes arn't good either. Plain old water is the best, If you look online youll probably find an OSHA Hydration color chart thats kinda funny but your urine color is the way to tell if your hydrated.

    Re: Hydration

After having been a sufferer of heat stroke and taken by ambulance for severe dehydration (tennis tournament)... I start hydrating a few days before an event (and more during hot weeks).
I've drank 3 liters in the race car (camelback pack in back of seat on 5 car, strapped on side bar in 5/16) in less than 2 hours. Some people don't need it others do.
I add http://new.eletewater.com/ to my gatorade for an extra pop. Nothing is better and harder to do (if you like coffee and alcohol) is to refrain from them days prior to a hot event.

Whether fully true or not. For me it is. I think that once you've had heat stroke... it's easier to get again. Some people just sweat a lot and get hot easily; like in a fire suit. They need to be more aware of their hydration needs.

    Re: Hydration

Big thing to look at if your on blood pressure meds.. a day or two before the MORE July race I had a blood pressure increase and was prescribed a Diuretic medication to lower my blood pressure.. I didnt realize that this would really have an impact and actually forced me out of the car with severe pain end of lap one.. I was hydrated all week but the Diuretic dehydrated me severely lap one and my blood thickened and flowed slower causing the pain..

Check your blood pressure meds now with your doctor to eliminate the risk of dehydration causes by the meds..

    Re: Hydration

A lot of this posting is related to fluid intake in a high heat environment. Does anybody run a cool suit or air cooling?
