Re: Save johnson valley august 2012 campaign - get involved or shut the hell up!
Agreed! And don't hesitate to write CM Roscoe Bartlett(Maryland) and thank him for his support! Even though he represents a district nearly 3,000 miles away, he is a HASC sub committe chair (Tactical Air and Land Forces) and plays a key role in defense related issues. He is 86 years old and has been in Congress 20 years. I have seen first hand the schedule he keeps and this guy is a machine. He WILL listen and help!
All goes back to the point that this issue is not JUST a local/regional issue. Since it pertains to defense, it has national visibility.

Thanks and kudos to Jeff, CMRC, ORBA, CORVA, and all who have spent their time and/or money to preserve what little access we still have.

Proof that if we ban together we can make a difference. Tonight the Senate and Assembly passed AB1266 which was the amendment to AB1595. THis amendment removed the reqiurement to have your feet touch the floor boards. This insures your children will be able to continue to ride with you in your UTV. The next part that was sort of fixed, was they delayed until July 1, 2013 the section about modified/aftermarket rear seats people have put in their Rhino's and other 2 seat UTV's. This delay is going to give Legislation time to write a new law that has safety requirements like properly bolted in rear seats, seat belts and proper roll cage protection for your passengers.
The UTV community made some real noise and a small victory was had tonight. There is a long way to go until the rest of this new law is fixed to our liking, But we proved you can make a difference. Now will saving JV be as easy as fixing a OHV law? Probably not! But when was the last time you hear of the OHV community winning anything against our Politicins and Government. So lets ban together and fight the big fight. Lets fight for JV like our poloticins and the Military has never seen before. Lets be like the Enviromentislst and fight to get our way.

How did the Marines manage to effectively fight 2 desert wars for 10 years without the benefit of the capabilities the expansion would allow them to train? And why expand to train this way now when the CINC has pledged to end the conflict before the training area would likely ever be used anyway?

Why expand to create a large force desert training site when the CINC has announced a light/lean force with an Asian/Pacific orientation?

Why spend more defense money (to train for a conflict we are withdrawing from) when congressionally mandated cuts totalling $500bil over 10 years are looming for FY 13?

Regardless of whether you use the desert or not, the Marine expansion is not in line with the strategic vision the POTUS has articulated, nor in line with the fiscal objectives Congress has outlined.
I totally approve this message!

Rescue 3
Re: Save johnson valley august 2012 campaign - get involved or shut the hell up!
I want to remind everyone about the meeting in Lucerne Valley.
Tues, Sept.4, from 5 to 7pm, there will be a public meeting at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center behind (ie.south) of the Janice Horst Library concerning the threat of the Marine base expansion, solar and wind farms, BLM road closures, and other threats to Lucerne and Johnson Valleys. Congressional candidates Greg Imus and Paul Cook plan to attend to hear our requests. Possibly a rep from Tim Donnelly's staff will also be there. Should be a good input opportunity.
This is your chance to not only hear directly from the residents and business owners as to the economic impact the Marine Base expansion will have but also meet the two men, one of whom will be our next Congressman to represent this area.
It would be great to pack the room with not only locals but also with off roaders who truly care and are passionate about the issue.
I'll be there. I will be wearing my Rescue 3 shirt. If you see me please come introduce yourself.
