Last week I filed to become a candidate for Mayor of California City, in this coming November 6th elections. I would like to reach as many people as possible and let the entire off-road community know that you will have a friend in Cal-City.
In addition to making sure we keep the 203 square miles of desert and trails open for OHVs in Cal City, I will endeavor to annex more areas and to bring in new businesses into town to increase jobs and our infrastructure to service all visitors.
And I also want to send a message to SCORE, BITD, MORE, VORRA, SNORE, HDRA, the AMA, the district, to clubs and promoters that if elected, our doors will be open to consider any event you'd like to produce in Cal-City.
You can go to our website: www.vote4lou4mayor.com and read my platform and what I hope to accomplish if elected.
By the way, if you already own a house or land in Cal City, and would like to register to vote here, let us know, we'll get you registered. I know most of you cannot vote in Cal City, but I would like to know that I can count on your support once elected and that you will spread the word.
Every day we lose more and more land. So far, Cal-City has been able to maintain our deserts open because we not only welcome OHVers but we also ask everyone to keep our deserts clean, stay on exhisting trails, don't cut across private land and be conscientious of others by leaving as little impact as possible on our deserts. We do these simple things, and we will have a place to ride and enjoy our desert for a long time.
Remember to obtain your yearly Cal-City OHV License. It supports our police, fire and D.I.R.T. teams, the same people who take care of the thousands of OHVers who visit our deserts every year.
If you don't know it, Governor Brown recently "stole" over $25 million dollars out of the Green Sticker Fund for 2013 and left nothing for communities such as ours, who really deserve to be supported by those grants.
If elected (when elected), I'll be looking for a few artists, sculptors, metal artisans to design and create a couple of OHV monuments that will welcome people to the greatest off-road and recreational community in California. These monuments will be located at both entrances into Cal-City: From Hwy 14 and Hwy 58.

Go Lucho, Go Lucho , Go Lucho you never cease to amaze me man!!!
Wait until see what we are going to do with Cal-City. It will be the recreational, entertainment, sporting capital of the United States, plus we will have the biggest solar plant in the world, and with Mojave's Space Port One, this region will be known world-wide. We have to get ready for it. There's so much potential here, that it scares me, but not enough to back off. Palm Springs, La Quinta, move over, we're coming!
Right on Lou! We have friends in Cal City and will pass the word.
Thank you. Just by our making the announcement we've received a number of calls from people who have bought homes here just to have a place to stay when they ride, that will register in Cal-City to help me win the election by voting for me. We really appreciate that.
I'm dedicated to get this city out of the doldrums it finds itself, like many other cities. I believe we have a special place here, a unique place that can become Mecca for all types of outdoor activities.
Some people think that I'm a "One-Trick-Pony" always talking about the OHVers and touting how we should cultivate that group.
What foolish person would not consider such a group since it is they (OHVers) who are basically the only group that has brought so much financial windfalls to this community:
1. Our Green Sticker Funds have been used for years by our Police and Fire Departments and D.I.R.T. teams constantly to upgrade equipment and staff to exclusively serve those who come to our desert.
2. The most recent Cal-City OHV License finally brought some financial help to the city with the augmenting of Borax Bill Park, our central focal point for OHVers.
3. It took us many years to convince the city of the positive effects of the special OHV license fee. As a result, it has helped tremendously as this is where OHVers can receive medical assistance and obtain information about safety, proper behavior, etc. The park has staff, including medical services, on call, in the event of emergencies. That partnership has worked very well for the last three and a half years but it took us over ten years to convince the city that the off-road community would not be opposed to the special license since all the money would be spent on their behalf. Now they are sorry they did not start it years ago when it was first suggested.
4. Yet, there are narrow-minded people in this town who want to get rid of all OHV activities. My goal is to quell that move so that we can keep our 203 square miles open and perhaps annex even more in the near future.
Again, thank you for your support because aside from the obvious, which is my love for the OHV community, I believe California City is "golden" for all other types of activities and businesses: Golfing, horse trails, internet businesses, major hubs into northern California and Nevada, Space Port One, the worlds largest solar plant in Cantil and a plethora of other opportunities. But we can't sit and wait for it to happen. I hope to meet with as many people outside this community to encourage them to consider California City for their businesses in order to bring many more jobs.
Sorry, I get carried away when discussing the future of this great community. The 2012-2013 desert season begins on Labor Day in September. I hope to have the opportunity to meet with many of you who come to our desert. Go to: www.vote4lou4mayor.com for more details.
