HDPE/UHMW is pretty tough stuff. Looks like crap once it gets scratched up and dirty, but it's way more slippery and forgiving than aluminum when it comes to plowing into rocks/dirt.

Thanks for the replys. I was using 4130 plate underthere. But we lost it in the Mint 400 race. Was thiinking about aluminum just didn't know if it would hold up to the beating??
I'm looking to save some more weight!!
Thanks guys.

Aluminum or UHMW would be better than 4130. . .if I were gonna use steel I would just use 1018/1020 to save money since it's just gonna get beat up anyway.

I use 2mm ally sheet under the tubes with HDPE bolted on in replacable sections underneath.

I have a 0.5" UHMWPE skid plate on my prerunner and it has taken some serious abuse. Only problem is bolt tearout, so I would recommend a thin metal backer panel or some extra support behind it.

Glad someone finally asked this question. I had been wondering if this would work for skid plates.
