Converting from CA OHV sticker to licensed truck

I am going to be looking at purchasing this truck this weekend.
    http://www.race-dezert.com/classifie...tails&id=28348

Its green stickered and I am sure the vin tag is probably gone since its a race truck or maybe its not. I am not sure how it works for vehicles converted to non highway use. Lets say it is gone though for sake of my question. If I were to purchase a wrecked toyota of the same body style and put what Items where required back on the motor to smog it would it be possible to register it as a on highway vehicle? I actually have a 1990 bone stock toyota right now. But I would hate to do that to a good truck when I could sell it for a few grand and by a wrecked one with a good vin number. I am not looking to make this a DD or anything. I would still trailer it around. But I want to open up the possibilities of going to a few more places with it. Like taking it to the store or something if I am staying at a park. Or even drive it just to go fill it up with gas before a trip instead of trailering it around. I don't plan on racing it. I do realize things like lights and a front windshield might be required to to that and maybe some other little details. I am more curious if its just possible in general.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brandon

The fuel cell will be a deal breaker most likely. But you could get that thing plated in AZ.

CA is tough. The cage down tubes in the middle of the dash are technically illegal because they obstruct your visibility. I bet theres a thousand reasons that wont let you get that California plated. Even if you were able to come up with an AZ address and got it registered there I would expect you to get hassled in Cali anyway. Then when you do and show the cop your Cali License hes gonna hassle you more about the dual addresses knowing you did it to skirt the law...

Im not saying it cant be done or that in court the tickets would hold up but its likely it will be a pain in you ass to deal with. I know of trucks with fuel cells and cages that have been able to get registered but they were never just green stickered vehicles, and they had windshields...

    Good luck man...

Yeah it sounds like it would be a pain. Either way I will still enjoy the truck. And maybe someday down the road I'll figure something out. It's not a big rush though. I'll just enjoy it the way it is.

I will. Leaving in 10 hours to go look at it tomorrow. As long as everything seems as good as it did in the pictures and emails text messages and 3 hours of phone conversation I will be coming home with it.
