This was talked about at the TT meeting last month. If it turns out half as good as Sal described it could rival how Riverside was with even more. For example how about a leap contest on Fremont Street at night. Score has put out a Press Release with the details.

This will be an awesome event, I can't wait! Here is the press release:

Las Vegas Events secures SCORE LAS VEGAS TERRIBLE’S CUP
Featuring 750-horsepower SCORE Trophy-Trucks at LVMS

LVMS Dirt Track will host best of SCORE, featuring marquee racing divisions from SCORE Desert Series

LAS VEGAS—After 10 years of rumbling around rugged desert race courses in the Southwestern U.S. and Baja California, Mexico, SCORE Trophy-Trucks--the untamed 750-horsepower, unlimited production trucks that are the featured racing division in the SCORE Desert Series--will make their stadium racing debut next July at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it was announced jointly today by Las Vegas Events, SCORE International and LVMS.
With a title sponsorship approved by Las Vegas Events and a co-title sponsorship with Terrible’s Convenience Stores, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I, will be held July 28-30 on the LVMS Dirt Track. It will feature a two-day event on a purpose-built race track with limited pavement and man-made dirt simulations of the rugged desert terrain these monsters of the desert face. Nearly 90-percent of the 1.5 mile course will be viewable in the 8,000-seat facility. Also competing in their own race will be the unlimited SCORE Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars along with a special SCORE All Star event for the top point leaders in the other 15 SCORE Pro car and truck classes.
“SCORE is extremely excited to work again with Las Vegas Events, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and Terrible’s Convenience Stores to make this event something special for the fans and challenging for the racers,” said Sal Fish, CEO/President of Los Angeles-based SCORE International, which is in its 31st year of producing championship desert racing.
“Fans seldom get to see the incredible wheel-to-wheel racing action that goes on out in the desert up close and personal like this and meet the drivers, too. With its great dirt track and plenty of pit space along with area to add some more dirt racing surface to make this a very unique short-course event to resemble the rugged desert courses we use in the U.S. and Baja, the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is an ideal location to showcase our amazing SCORE Trophy-Trucks, the high-speed Class 1 open-wheelers and the rest of our top racers. It’s going to be awesome to bring most of the world’s greatest desert racers into this fan-friendly environment.”
In addition to all the regular SCORE Trophy-Truck racers, this new event will also include NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Robby Gordon, 35, a second-generation desert racer, who still has a desert-racing shop and race program. He finds time to race his No. 31 Red Bull Chevy CK1500 SCORE Trophy-Truck in one or two SCORE desert races per season. This year, the 1996 SCORE Trophy-Truck season champion and his Southern California-based Team Gordon raced in the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and he is also scheduled to race in November in both the 37th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in Mexico and the NASCAR Nextel Cup race in Homestead, Fla., on the same weekend.
“Las Vegas Events is extremely pleased to be able to work with SCORE and Sal Fish on this very unique and exciting motorsports event,” said Pat Christensen, President of Las Vegas Events, Inc. “Sal Fish is the most influential person in desert racing and we are very comfortable that our partnership with SCORE and Terrible’s Convenience Stores will produce a colorful, family-oriented, summertime event with a very long future. LVE has worked with SCORE for over a decade and we have been working on this unbelievable special event for almost three years. We have full confidence in Sal and his staff to deliver what works for Las Vegas.”
Just like he faces every weekend in NASCAR, Gordon will have to contend with the world’s best desert racing drivers, this time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Instead of NASCAR Nextel Cup foes like Earnhardt Jr., J. Gordon, Kenseth, Stewart and Harvick, Gordon will face his SCORE Trophy-Truck rivals in Las Vegas,
including the teams of the Herbst brothers, Smith/Ashley, Ragland/Collins, Vildosola/MacCachren, Post/Whelchel, Pflueger and Jason Baldwin.
The three-day event will include some special ancillary events held on Thursday, July 28, in Las Vegas before the teams move out to LVMS. At LVMS, there will be qualifying, an on the track meet the driver’s session, heat races and a main event. Ancillary events will include a Las Vegas Leap contest for SCORE Trophy-Trucks and a SCORE Pit Crew Challenge involving both SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1.
“We’re excited to add yet another nationally sanctioned racing series to our schedule at Las Vegas Motor Speedway,” said Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager Chris Powell. “This just reaffirms our position as the most diverse motorsports facility in the country. The excitement of off-road, desert-style racing has been absent from the speed way for a number of years. We’re appreciative of the efforts of both Las Vegas Events and SCORE International for bringing this high-energy event to Las Vegas Motor Speeday.”
The event will offer both reserved and general admission tickets. Special ticket packages, which will include pit passes and special viewing areas for the ancillary events, will be announced shortly. With each paid admission will also come one ticket in the free drawing for the SCORE Terrible’s Fan Appreciation giveaway. A new showroom truck, donated by Terrible’s, will be given away on Saturday night (July 29, 2005) at LVMS.
An added attraction to the event will be the SCORE Shootout race on opening night, featuring the top five SCORE Trophy-Truck versus the top five SCORE Class 1 qualifiers. Festivities will also include Terrible’s Fireworks show after both nights of racing.
As many as 20 of these exotic, technologically-advanced desert race trucks are expected to be in Las Vegas, and each will be co-sponsored for the event by various Southern Nevada resort properties.
A full field of 20 Class 1 cars is expected as well for the new event.
With specific plans being finalized, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I will be televised nationally on a cable network.
Next July’s SCORE event falls on the off-weekend for NASCAR, allowing Gordon the opportunity to participate along with Las Vegas’ Brendan Gaughan, another second generation desert racer who is also a NASCAR Nextel Cup regular who returns to race the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 when his schedule allows.
The Las Vegas Ed and Tim Herbst, are the all-time winningest team in SCORE Trophy-Truck history. Splitting the driving time in their No. 1 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150, Ed, 43, and Tim, 41, have 11 career wins in SCORE Trophy-Truck, and four of the 10 season championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003).
“With the never-ending growth in Southern Nevada, the desert is shrinking rapidly, and this event will showcase SCORE, the world’s foremost desert racing series and Terrible’s is looking forward to promoting the event as well as racing in it,” said Ed Herbst, president of the Herbst business group and oldest of the three second-generation brothers who comprise the prominent Terrible Herbst Motorsports team. “Because of spectator restrictions in the U.S., desert racing is the most incredible motorsport that few have ever seen.
“We’re hoping to help change that with this event and that it will be the launching pad for an entire series of these types of special races for SCORE desert racing vehicles. They will never replace open desert racing, but they will certainly give motorsports fans a far greater appreciation of what our sport is all about.”
Troy Herbst, 38, the youngest of the three Herbst brothers, is a dominating SCORE Class 1 racer, with six SCORE season point titles in his class out of the last seven years, and 15 Class 1 race wins since 1997 in a Smithbuilt-Ford open wheel desert race car.
Both from Riverside, Calif., Dan Smith and David Ashley are the second winningest team in SCORE Trophy-Truck history with nine career wins and two season titles (1998, 2001) in the No. 8 Enduro Racing Ford F-150.
Larry Ragland, Cave Creek, Ariz., and Brian Collins, of Las Vegas, share the driving time in the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Chevy Silverado. Ragland has seven career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins while Collins has one.
Gus Vildosola, Mexicali, Mexico, and Rob MacCachren, of Las Vegas, team to drive the No. 4 Vildosola Racing Ford F-150. While last year’s win in the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 was Vildosola’s first in the premiere SCORE racing division, it was MacCachren’s fourth. MacCachren, a member of the 2001 All-America
motorsports team has seven SCORE class season titles in five different classes including winning the 1994 SCORE Trophy-Truck season championship.
Honolulu’s Alan Pflueger, the newest star in SCORE Trophy-Truck with two straight race wins, drives the No. 28 Pflueger Racing Chevy Silverado. Jason Baldwin, Laguna Beach, Calif., is a veteran SCORE racer who currently leads the SCORE Trophy-Truck point standings in his No. 66 Baldwin Racing Ford F-150.
SCORE International, based in Los Angeles and founded in 1973, is the world’s leading desert racing organization. SCORE produces the annual five-race SCORE Desert Series, which includes three races in Baja California, Mexico and two in Southern Nevada. SCORE offers 23 Pro and 5 Sportsman classes in the desert.
The SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, held each January, and September’s SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 are both sponsored by Las Vegas Events in association with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The 2004 SCORE Series finale will be the legendary 37th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the granddaddy of all desert races, Nov. 16-20, in Mexico.
SCORE official sponsors for 2004 are: BFGoodrich Tires-official tire, Southern California Ford Dealers-official vehicle and CL Bryant-VP-official fuel supplier. Associate sponsors are: Tecate Beer, Coca-Cola of Mexico, Instant Mexico Auto Insurance, Herbst Gaming, Kartek Off-Road, Fram, Autolite, Prestone, Bilstein, Signpros, P.C.I. Race Radios, McKenzie’s Performance Products and Advanced Color Graphics.
Special sponsors for the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I are: Las Vegas Events in association with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Terrible’s Convenience Stores and Red Bull, North America.
Founded in 1981, Las Vegas Events, Inc., is a private, not-for-profit organization that serves as the exclusive major special events agency for the city. LVE will be active marketing partners for this new event.

Let's see, sitting in stadium seats at LVMS in the middle of the day in late July.... uh, no thanks. Should only be about 120 degrees.

Maybe they could hose down the crowd with water trucks like they used to do at Riverside.

Frankly, anything in Nevada in July or August is not very appealing.

a race in laughlin, havasu, o rparker in july or august where you could go boating after the race sounds pretty appealing to me and would prob appeal to the tens of thousands of boat enthusaist who dont know what desert racing is, but apparently im the only one who thinks that and I have been preaching that for 2 or 3 years now.

120 degrees or not, the TRUE off road fans will be there. THERE'S NO WHINING IN OFF ROAD RACING!! Anybody remember the Fireworks 250 races in July? I do, and loved every sweaty minute of it, even raced in a challenger car back in 91' in a 3 piece race suit, and that was one HOT S.O.B. Come one people, be excited, not negitive. See you in Las Vegas in July of 2005.
