With all do respect, I have a difficult time agreeing with this sentiment. And mind you, a lot of other people have expressed similiar opinions here so I'm not trying to single you out. But in my opinion, a business cannot be successful based on the "faith" of the consumer. You have to deliver the product. You wouldn't continue to go to a restaurant that had terrible food because you had faith that they'd figure it out and eventually serve better food.
I am sure that putting a magazine together and distributing it is not easy. But neither is much of anything else and when a person pays for a product, they expect to receive it. That is how the business world works. An occassional sanfu is one thing, but consistent problems with significantly late delivery, in some cases no delivery at all, etc, is a real problem. From what's been stated here it's obviously not an anomally as many have the same problems.
As stated before, if you want to give money to the community, there are plenty of non profit organizations designed to do that. But when you pay for a product from a business and don't recieve it, that's unacceptable. It's not personal, nor a reflection of the character of those involved with making the magazine. It's just business.

Re: Is Dirt Sports out of business?
Just as a point of reference, Off Road magazine has a small staff of two with some contract contributors and I receive that magazine timely, so the excuse that because DS magazine has a small staff they can't get a magazine out on a monthly basis doesn't fly with me. I don't know how many countless Dirtsports magazines I haven't recieved over the year. Real bummer because it's actually a good magazine.

Man, I gotta be a sucker! With people getting the June issue, I guess I'll subscribe. Atleast I know they are still producing something...late, but otherwise I have nothing but RDZ for my off-road desert fix and we know how frustrating this freakin forum can be!!

Personally, I paid for a subscription also....you guessed it, no magazine whatsoever. If I were a business owner wanting to take out an ad in DS, I would be very hesitant after reading this thread.

Don't get me going on PCI radios and the time they were charging everyone $$ at the 2011 Mint contingency for the "free" gps file...talk about underhanded!!!

I guess someone at the drivers meeting representing SNORE said we were supposed to provide it for SNORE at the race free of charge. If the SNORE download would have been usable, we would have handed it on - no charge. It was not, it took me HOURS to fix it and clean it up. We NEVER agreed to give our version away for free and I'm really bummed that SNORE would represent us so negatively at a drivers meeting. I made a few phones calls and emails and asked that it be addressed in the next meeting and an apology made, but that either didn't happen or fell on deaf ears by the time the next meeting came around.
PCI ALWAYS provides the SCORE/BITD/MORE/SNORE download that is DIRECT FROM THEIR WEBSITE free of charge (if you bring your own chip and just want us to put the latest version on your chip.) We do, however, charge for any race courses we modify, fix, write, prerun, etc. We give you the same course you can go online and download for free - for free! We do sometimes charge for installing it into your GPS, depending on the race and amount of tech support staff we have at the race. (overtime/travel time gets expensive!) If it's a smaller race and it's just me and Jimmy, we will download it in your GPS for free.
Anyone who was at BITD Vegas to Reno this weekend can confirm. We did no modification to the download for V2R, it was direct from www.bitd.com website (after the .zip file extraction) to your chip - for free. If we installed it in your GPS, it was $10. Seems pretty fair to me.
If you came to BITD Parker 425 this year, we cleaned up that download and did quite a bit of work to it. If you asked for the BITD download, we put it on your chip for free. If you wanted the Red Crosses turned into Skull & Crossbones and the dangers spelled out across the screen, (PCI Download) it was $20. $20 was the cost if we put our version in your GPS or if you just had us write the chip.
The V2R danger list and the BITD provided download this year did not have enough in common for me to want to put a "PCI version" out there for sale. I would rather you have BITD's information (red cross with no notes) and question what it is than give you guys bad info and type in a detailed note that is not correct.
Sorry for the confusion with the SNORE Mint 400 download, but that wasn't a very cool deal that went down for us at the driver's meeting. You guys are welcome to download the GDM6 software for free from www.lowrance.com, get the sanctioning body version of the download and customize it the way you would like to see it. You will have a whole new understanding to why we charge for that service.
