    Advise on Seat Belt mounting

I am swapping out my seats and need to reloacate the shoulder belts. (3G's to Sparco's)

As you can see in the pic the previous belts were down on the cross bar and that is not right, we were using the seat frame for the seat belt support... bad news.

I need to get the mount up ~8" and I am wondering what will work the best aesthetically as well as functionally. I have 2 thoughts that I sketched below. Inputs?

That's my concern... I don't like having the 2nd bar come across behind the seat, but I worry that the hoop won't be strong enough.

Option 1 with enough room between the bar and the opening in the seat for the d rings.
Does the seat go outside of the cage on the left side or is that just the picture angle? Also, is the seat against the tube in the back? If so, move the tube or seat if possible. the seat should be able to flex in an impact. If the cage is against the seat on the headrest, you'll get you're bell rung every time you take a hit.

How are you mounting the bottom? We have a seat mount with a built in mount that works great and puts the lower belt at the right angle.

Thanks Jeff. I am using the Sparco steel mounts. The lap belts are pretty easy to line up.

There is 4-6" of room between the cross-bar and the seat. (and head rest)

The shoulder wing is line-line with the side rail but ~1" outside the roof. Kinda stuck with that. My 3G's were a full 1" outside the side rail.

Re: Advise on Seat Belt mounting

I think picture 1 of the first post looked fine, I don't think you need to add 2 bars for the shoulder harness. You don't have much room on the side, but it doesn't look like you can change that without rebuilding the car. I assume you're running SFI(the hard stuff) padding on the bars, if not you need to be.

The seat is not up against the cage is it? These seats are designed to flex a little on impact, unlike an oval track(NASCAR)seat that has more padding to absorb impacts.

Re: Advise on Seat Belt mounting

I think the pics are a bit deceptive. Let's try this:

The seat is 6" in all directions from a tube. I might put some SFI padding on the B-pillar as that is the closest point.

That looks better, it looks like you you've got it figured out.
