My son thinks he hit the light bar on top of the car and flew about 15-20ft landing in the silt. The drive and co-driver got to him quick and got him out of harms way and kept him on the ground till the EMTs got onscene. The driver stayed with him long then he needed to and was very shaken by what happened. My son told him it was part of racing. My son was taken to Beatty, transfered to a helo with his mom and flown to Vegas. After an MIR and x-ray, he has hair line fractures to L1 and L2. Very minor. He got home last night and is resting. There is some pain and discomfort but he will recover and race again.
Wow this is exactly what we are talking about. Imagine of that was a TT that hit him instead of the utv. He would not have had a chance! I am very glad to hear that he is ok and I hope he makes a full recovery and is back out racing again soon! But on a separate day from the cars/trucks!!

Why should a UTV have to slow down for a slow ATV rider? Why should a ATV rider have to slow down for a slow motorcycle racer? Why should RG have to slow down for a slow TT racer? Why should a 1600 have to slow down for a TT limping to the next pit.Didnt they all pay to enter?

I guess you didn't catch his sarcasm?
So your saying that Roger Norman doesn't belong in his TT? Do you even know what happened in that situation or any like it? You should stop writing. It's not a good look for you.

The fallacy of this argument is the implication that the racers themselves are supposed to police their actions during the race. Once the green flag drops, its on. The setup of these races with MUCH MUCH MUCH slower, unprotected racers starting in front of the biggest fastest vehicles is a recipe for disaster.

Yep, for sure. What will happen is that a state patrol and other LEO will show up to a fatality and demand the race stop immediately for a proper investigation. That almost happened at Primm300 with the Class1 buggy crash/death at the start. Then all kinds of media/insurance/land managers will be alerted to this dangerous situation and shut it down.

Re: Vegas to Reno thread
Congrats to all of the finishers of the 2012 Vegas to Reno. What an epic race!
Yes there is a lot of very slow quads and bike guys and it is sketchy passing them. They struggle to hear our three horns (one 116db electric and two full on air horns) and with now mirror, they don't know we are there.
The first place Polaris UTV of Mark Holz finished an hour and a half before dark and was never passed any trophy trucks or Class 1 cars. Our second place Polaris also finished in daylight only got passed by a few unlimiteds between the last pit at Weeks and the finish. We told them how far back each unlimited was and when they would be caught. The helicopter guys did an excellent job of letting them know that they were approaching and our co-dog was nearly 100% in his mirrors. There was zero issues for Jason (who got in for me at RM 280) getting out of the way well before the unlimiteds got to them. All of the unlimited drivers were very professional and we got a lot of thumbs up from the unlimited drivers after the race. I have no clue what happened behind us, but this was our experience.
This was an awesome Vegas to Reno!

Yes the first place UTV ran fast but I believe only the 1-2 UTV are the only ones who did not get passed by a TT. So that means the 20something other ones did. That does not work. They need to be moved back in the pack by the 1600 cars. /story.

Hard to argue that. I would bet the UTV guys would agree.
