ASU Polytechnic SAE Baja - A Little About Us
Hey guys,
We're just now getting into the off-road scene and we'd like you to know a little bit about us! We're a student chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers located on Arizona State University Polytechnic campus. Our team competes annually in the Baja SAE Collegiate Design Series, and we are currently designing a vehicle for the 2013 competition. We're really looking to get a few tips and spread our own knowledge around a bit. Check us out on YouTube and Facebook, and don't forget to Like us if you like us!

well being that i was born and raised in tucson a die hard UofA wildcat fan i will NOT be cheering for you HAHA. but to be honest with how much time and money that this school is putting into this project i really expected more out of it. it looks like a go cart that me and my dad built when i was 7. and its got pretty much the same motor. How far are you planning on going in that thing? anything over 50-70 miles idk if it will make it.
pretty cool that there doing this in college but for a group of engineering students i expected more. without seeing the beginning of the video you would think this thing was built in a garage by high school freshman with 1 year of auto/welding experience.
if your going for the small go cart idea i would look into trophy carts. they are well built and holdup very well

here is the link to the rules, it is a spec motor class, this is not an open class. You tone is a bit negitive, did you graduate from college at 7 when you finished your kart? http://students.sae.org/competitions/bajasae/rules/

i guess if if they mentioned it was a spec class with a link to what they all look like that would have given people who have not heard of this program a better insight of what is going on.
sorry if i come off negative!!
good luck with this it could be a good steeping stone to working with larger vehicles later on down the road.

I did the minibaja at calpoly One of my best college experiences. There is no comparison from an engineering grad that did a SAE project and one that didn't. One of the best things you can do to prepare for a practical engineering job.

Very cool to see you on RDC, I'm a member of the University of Arizona SAE Baja design team myself! And yes, they're slow, but its a spec motor class so we work with what we've got! Lightweight is the name of the game, the only problem, with that is the cars keep shrinking and now my big 6'8'' ass cant drive 'em.
BTW......Go Cats!

8 years ago I had an Intern from ASU for the summer that did the mini baja and he asked me for some tips... Do they still have the mud bog? I would make it all wheel drive and put a transmission in it. Low gear, 1:1 and High gear.

If no power steering keep your thumbs out of the steering wheel. Good way to break them. Good luck..
