Re: v2r mile 282 crosswash danger!
First off, anyone who would call Jason or any of the off-road photogs integrity into question needs their head examined. These guys do an awesome job covering a sport that is very hard to cover, and get paid very little money. They put themselves in a position to get a good shot. It is not their fault if you run out of talent. Hell, them just being their should be the biggest danger marker you have ever seen. Racers need to learn to drive without GPS. Learn to read the terrain and don't let a 7" screen tell you when it is time to slow down. That's not talent, thats being brain dead. If the off-road community was smart, and I have had conversations with Jared from Fast-Aid on this, we would pay for all of the photogs to go to Emergency First Aid and CPR training, and provide them with the medical supplies to save a life. Makes sense to me.

Its amazing to me how much crying there is in this sport now. Everybody putting the blame on someone else for their misfortune. Everybody should be LUCKY they have a place to race these days, the promoters that put on these races are really pulling off the impossible everytime they hold an event. And to cry about destroying your equipment because "a danger wasnt marked properly" is B.S. Especially at a BITD event. Tell your co-driver to wake the F up. Im sure the last thing Casey wants to hear is how you wadded up your vehicle because they didnt put a giant reflective danger sign up for YOU!!! After being told about it at the drivers meeting you havent got a leg to stand on, Stop relying on your gps with little skull and crossbones, do your home work, and learn how to read the desert miles in front of you not 50 feet.
When in fear stab it & steer!!!

we are over it and have moved on. my car is fixed. talked to casey everything is squared away. my co driver is stepping up his game. the guy posting about the camara guys has nothing to do with me or my co driver. now you can get a life off of rdz and work on your own deal or you can keep posting away. everyone i talked to (that raced) and drove through that spot said it was hard to see and was not marked well. i walked the track back 1/4 mile and at that time there were no other markers other than the ones in the wash. thats it. i purchased two new cars and fixed the one i have. i am ready for blue water. you can now beat this thread to death. this is my last response. have a nice day!

Right on Jimmy! I've talked to Jared about this a few times over the last year or so. We want to do it.
I've talked with R Norman about making this a requirement to shoot at HDRA. He thought it was a great idea.
It's smart and can only be viewed as a good thing.

Definitely agree with getting more CPR/First-Aid trained people in the dez and the photogs are a great place to start- fall is a busy race time, but we have the equipment and instructors to make it happen, we just need to figure out a date!

I know you don't need another thing on your plate at the moment, but if you put it together I'll be the first to pledge money to help offset the costs so it doesn't cost anyone any money to get trained.

Re: v2r mile 282 crosswash danger!
We have our own organization, (AMMP) that has been working with several sanctioning bodies to improve safety and address some of the issues that impact our profession and racing in general. We have been doing most of this behind the scenes because we do it for the good of the sport. Some of the promoters have been great to work with however, others see us as nothing more than a liability on the course.
Those who judge us harshly may have had bad experiences with people shooting photos or video in the past. Unfortunately, everyone with a camera is lumped into the same group. One thing that has led to this negative perception has been the lack of professional standards in granting media credentials. To address the situation the BLM and organizers have adopted shortsighted policies that they believe will weed out the non-professionals. They now charge us fees thinking it will discourage people who abuse the credential process.
Nobody is making a decent living shooting desert racing however, the BLM thinks we are all getting rich. The fact that their “solution” generates additional cash for them but does not really address the problem has not gone unnoticed. Every time we show up for a race we are already in the hole for fees, travel expenses, equipment costs and the normal costs involved when operating in the desert.
We know we don’t get much empathy from racers who compete using disposable income but in order for us to put in the long hours and afford to thrash expensive equipment there needs to be a source of funding somewhere. We don’t have sponsors and the list of potential commercial clients and media outlets that pay for our services is small. Everyone is free to form his or her own opinions but to question the integrity of the professional desert racing media is beyond the pale. Crashes are a part of all motorsports. Thankfully, car construction, safety equipment and emergency support systems are better than ever. If you think documenting a normal occurrence is somehow unethical you might want to find something else to do.

Thanks Jimmy! Last day at current job is in 2 weeks and then I start the new gig which will be more flexible - Of course anyone that works for themselves knows that flexibility can be really good or REALLY bad, lol!
Either way, Fast-Aid is a priority and we have a great board and great volunteers in place that keep this wheel rolling!
I'll be in touch with AAMP in the near future..... unless they call me first. Unfortunately, replacing warning markers that have been knocked down are not in our curriculum at this juncture, lol

Two members of a famous off road team and a friend rescued a drowning kid in Baja last weekend... I thought the camera person acted ethically...(interesting angle) Everyone was CPR trained....
