Re: As a Race Promoter how do you run your races?
Have the bikes and quads start 2 at a time, not only will the bikes leave faster but the action is gonna be awesome, we raced the speed rosarito 200 and the RECORD ensenada to San Felipe on a 2 quads start at the same time format and all the spectators love it

Re: As a Race Promoter how do you run your races?
Lots of solutions but I'm not sure the promoters even agree there is a problem. So none of the possible solutions will really be considered. And some series start the Rhinos between the handlebars and trophy trucks? WTF. Obviously factors like what time a Rhino will finish for the manufacturer or how late the check point workers have to stay out are far more important than safety.
I don't think a promoter should ever allow handlebars and steering wheels to be on the same part of the track at the same time - but obviously the promoters do not think this is a problem. After all, they have been doing it like this for 45 years now. Good thing us racers do not think like that when it comes to things like helmets, head and neck restriants, cages/harnesses/fuel cells, communications, etc.
Can you imagine the reaction if LeMans announced they would add motorcycle classes to the 24 hour race?
And regarding Dakar, that's a little different. The historical driving style does not typically involve such aggressive driving and nerfing like desert racing does. And they have taken great measures as Scott Whitney points out, to mitigate this risk with the sentinal system.
It's not about how much faster you can go, it's about how much longer you can go faster.

It's time for Roger Norman to step up again as he was the power behind the movement to make racing safer after he had felt the anguish of hitting a handlebar. Roger stopped until the victim had succor and afterward spent days with the rider in the hospital. Roger afterwards made him a part of his team. Roger knows the dangers and he knows the promoters, (as he is now one himself - maybe because he has personally been a victim of the futility of running handlebars and steering wheels in the same race with the consequence of intermingling 6000 pound vehicles - in blinding dust and in a freight train of other 6000 pound vehicles all trying to pass each other with the TIME BOMB about to happen!) It has happened before! There have been suggestions, some very good and ideas that could work to seperate the Steering wheels having to mix with the handlebars. Roger or someone has to form a committee that can come up with viable solutions and who the promoters will listen to.

Your speeds are gonna be way slower and your gonna have alot more "pucker factors" from all the truck/car ruts since the difference between the tires sizes and the machines themselves are huge, its like trying to race off camber the whole time. Now you throw the entire bike and quad classes behind all car/truck classes and you got guys racing hard for the win riding in more dangerous conditions
Yes i do know that in the CODE race the bikes/quads race a different day, they raced a day after the cars/trucks with a corse full of truck holes that were the direct cause of riders going over the bars on race day
This is why this a very bad idea, your gonna have alot more injuries(just like CODE did) and are gonna need to extend the time limits from the slower speeds
By the time race day rolls around on a SCORE race, the course is already beat to hell from the weeks of prerunning leading up to it. Race day traffic isn't making it that much worse.

I thought from mile 300 in was a lot worse than it was prerunning at this years 500.
