    Re: SCORE 2013 3 Race Baja Series - Class 5-1600 & Limited VW classes (16, 11, 9)

When is SCORE going to open up the entries for the San Felipe 250. The website just says, 'coming soon.' I already have my house rented and want to get signed up ASAP. Are the SCORE rules going to mimic the HDRA rules for Pro UTV? Is there a pre-inspection BS thing, or can we go through tech in San Felipe? When is the map coming out? When does pre-running open? The race is only 6.5 weeks away! Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I hope Roger has some new course in San Felipe and/or blades down the 4' whoops.

Blade down the whoops? That's where we make time on our competitors, keep them!

Well you are the only one I have heard of that likes the SF whoops. Even Roger Norman hates them as they absolutely destroy race vehicles. Even if they blade part of it, after pre running it will still be rough. Just not stupid rought. It will put the race back in the hands of the drivers instead of luck, money and wheel travel.

I don't like the whoops but we're faster than our competition there...... Smooth them out and the only thing that will matter is horsepower.

Emotions aside, the economics does seem to be working here. The actual costs of the race should be born by every competitor, regardless of class, but, I will make an assumption that the insurance costs are based on the fastest cars in teh race, not the slowest, so in that sense, if the insurance charge is the same for everyone, then the limited classes are actually sunsidizing the Trophy Trucks and Class 1s. Think about it. Second, all things being equal (maybe they aren't!) if Code can have entry fees in the 4-600 dollar range for a race on basically the same course as SCORE, then either Roger (was Sal) is being taken advantage of, or, Mexico is socializing the entry fees for the CODE races. Which do you think it is? While SCORE is obviously more popular on the grand scale, entries numbers are not really higher, and many of the same racers are there, maybe even moreso, so either SCORE is making more off the entry fee, or, they are getting hosed on costs. Again, all things being equal. Especially now with SCORE and HDRA being the same company, entry fees should be higher in the states than in Mexico due to the increased regs and requirements and higher costs in the states. How much more does the name Baja actually have to cost the racers? TV Time? Regardless of how many 3-4 second splashes of a limited car being shown during a TV show, the emphasis has all been about the Trophy Trucks and 1 cars for 95% of the TV the last few years. Without actual finishline interviews of some of the lower end classes where drivers get to mention their sponsors by name with car close-ups of stickers, etc... Sponsors are not going to beating down thelimited guys doors. And you know what? I am OK with that, but don't try and sprinkle the television package on top of the high entry fee stuff and say you are doing me a favor, it just isn't there as it sits right now.

Lot's of exposure to the little guys. It was refreshing for a change to relate to the competetors and say "hey I raced against him or that guy is super fast" etc. Since Rogers become the new face of SCORE I would say all in all there will be positive changes to be had for all, which is great. However, The SCORE entry fee's for the limited class are still high in my opinion. One thing that nobody is pointing out is regardless of the entry fee's SCORE is still going to have it's bread and butter racers in class 1 and TT class and also the up and coming rebirth of class 10. These are the guys that can afford to go out purchase a 100k to 500k race car and pay to have it maintained. These are the guys with the money that an extra $500 or $1,000 doesn't change their plans. The comment about socialism is a very valid and I agree I dont want that, However lowering the entry fees to a manageable amount for the limited classes is just going to add money to the bottom line.

One thing that will change is the tv coverage for the little guy. TT and Class 1 cars lets face it are the most entertaining to the average person watching TV at home. It would be foolish to try to appeal to the 2% of desert racers that will be watching VS the other 98% of whom are casually interested viewers. If this isn't the case I personally being a limited budget racer would be pleasantly surprised but I won't hold my breath. Although I'll still watch because trophy trucks and 1 cars are better than football, basketball, or some lame reality TV show.

    Back to the racing:
Here is the thing, the money is already spent on SCORES end to bring the race to the race teams. The TT, class 1's, 10's are gonna be there no matter what. There are thousands of 1600 cars, hundreds of 5/16', 9', and 12's, imagine if the entry for the classes were cut in half, that would get some attention. to make up for the cost deduction the entries in these classes would only have to double. And that would be doable since they've been so low in the recent past. Cutting the entry cost would immediatly pay for the fuel. I would think SCORE gets royalties from fuel sales from companies like f&L and VP. I could be wrong but there's another added benefit to pad the decrease in entry fees. These extra racers would also be bringing money to the local economy in the way of fuel purchasing for chase vehicles, hotels, food, and other entertainment. for every racer I'd guess there's at least 10people consuming goods and services. It would be a win for everyone.

I know it's easier said than done being a businessman myself but in this case I don't see there being anything to lose by opening up the doors again for the limited budgets of the aircooled classes. I would certainly be in this group of untapped racers if this happened.
Basiclly that is the point I have been trying to make, should be 600 for those classes, 150 per car pay back you would have record entries, or 800 with 200 per car pay back the rest goes to Score. No one will ever convince me Sal was not profiting off the insurence fees big time, nowhere else was that rediculis amount charged, It would be nice to have large fields in class 11, 5-1600 and 1600 like there use to be. That is the way to make it happen I mean what is better, people not showing with small entry numbers or give a big break and draw in the masses. At 800 dollars with 200 payed back per car the 600 dollars Score would pocket would add up so fast with the Ensanada racers bringing there cars out of the garages as well as Mexicali San Diego etc. I have no doubt Score would be big money ahead at the end of the day. Give some to get a lot

One thing you guys should remember is the insurance difference between SCORE and CODE/RECORD.

Last year at the San Felipe 250 a rider from our team had a accident and was airlifted over the border to the hospital without spending a penny extra.

While chasing I met a guy who broke his back at a CODE race, he told me he had to hitch a ride in the back of a pick up truck to get medical help

I don't know about everybody else but for me the difference in entry fee is well worth it especially with experiences like this
