What I found worked is, know when Eurosport is showing live coverage, and then just Google "Eurosport live stream", or something to that affect, and you've eventually stumble on a live stream showing the rally. That's what I did at work during last year's rally.

Its a shame that the NBC Sports coverage does not come out until a day later, and its the same Dakar feed that EuroSport uses that most of us will see hours after the end of the stage. The only difference is the voice-over changes.
Eurosport also does a great hour of live coverage during the stages. I found it pretty good to watch. I'm not sure if thats also an ASO feed? South American also has various bits of daily live and taped coverage that is seperate from the ASO, but generally not in english.

Re: 2013 Dakar TV coverage
I end up with the NBC/Versus show on my DVR, but I found I wasn't really watching it anymore. If you are able to spend some time here, you will get more and better information sooner than they have on TV. As mentioned, someone will post up links to the ASO Dakar feed and a number of other videos and text sources as soon as they come up. Plus, we get lots of info from people with sources at the race as well as expert commentary from people that have actually raced or have other direct involvement. The official Dakar tracking system actually works pretty well as well once you figure out how it works.

My god, NBC/Versus coverage SUCKS. I hope they have the intelligence to leave out the double D travel agent and fill it with more race info.....

One problem from last year was that the Eurosport feed from eurosport.com was blocking IPs from outside Europe, requiring proxies, but they tend to make the video jerky.
You can also get them on youtube, but the ASO was extremely agressive in getting them all pulled, somethings within minutes. So you would see sites making the videos "unlisted", only availible from secret links on various websites. ie planetrobby, etc.
