I know exactly where that is at, but is a rare shot from that position as the cars are comming at the camera for the most part.. As far as rules for 5/1600 and class 11 since the very beginning of each class, class 11 in august of 1975 and 5/1600 from june of 1977 and 1-2 1600 from February 1978 in the beginning of the class rules it has always stated that this is a stock production class and any modification NOT listed in these rules MUST REMAIN FACTORY STOCK! meaning you cant touch it or change it, It still to this day says that!!!!!!!!1-2 1600 also had that same caption up untill just a couple of years ago they made it a open class with limitations., I have a 1980 rule book in my hands, type 1 trans must be used with only 4 forward gears. When 5/1600 made its first appearance at the 77 Baja 500 you could not use close ratio gears, only 1 shock in the stock location was allowed making them all baja class 11 cars. Infact class 11 beat the new 5/1600 at the 77 Baja 500 by about a half hour!
37th year and still love it!!

The California loop made for it's own special problems. We saw many teams working on their cars on the trailer while driving from the Cal loop to the restart on the Ariz side.
Off Road Racing & Sex have a lot in common....it's only good if you finish

Re: Old off-road pics
I've scowered this whole thread to no avail - Just wondering if anyone might have any info on the Corvair powered buggy in the pictures below. From what I gather it was raced in the Mexican 1000 in 1969 by Sears (apparently they entered six of these vehicles to show off their tires and batteries) and by Bill Marvin Enterprises (driven by Marvin/Hull) in 1970. In 1970 the car number was 260. This particualr car was later set up for circle/dirt/oval track racing, and had the name "Tommy Davis" on the roll bar. It appears to have spent its early days in Texas. Just wonering if anyone has come across one of these, might have any info on them, this car in particular or otherwise. Both images from Sears tire ads. It was orange with white and black stripe.

Re: Old off-road pics
The truck shown in the bottom two photos is not the S-10 in the earlier shots. The truck shown in the "dead" photos is the infamous "Roseanne" Class 8 Ford - ex-Dave Shoppe/Scoop Vessels/Robby Gordon/Marty Coyne truck. Sad.

Re: Old off-road pics
I realize they are different trucks and know the history on both. Didnt want to post in two separate posts.

Re: Old off-road pics
Holy crap! I'd been thinking about asking about that procomp truck for a long time but off memory I didn't know how I'd describe it. I remember seeing it advertisements in the offroad advertiser mag in like the early 90's or late 80's if I remember right. I just remember that those front arms seemed insane to me at the time and that it sat so high off the ground!
