Re: Old off-road pics
Yachtman - would you happen to know how I could contact him? I found a newspaper article showing that John Johnson and Dave Donnan took first in non-production in a Corvair powered buggy in 1969 - if they were running for Sears it seems there is a one in six chance that this is the car they were running.
Thank you!

Mike Jonhson from El Centro gave me an old copy of the Nov 1980 issue of OFF-ROAD mag with coverage of Riverside! Enjoy

Re: Old off-road pics
Johnny's car was a Funco Bandido longback with the Corvair. He also raced with George Plimpton in Baja and had Plimpton along for the ride and drive. There is a TV documentary from back then and it talks about the car with plenty of coverage. If you can find it, worth the watch for sure. Even in car shots while racing.

Harleys Dad - does the car look like this one: http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/sho...=1#post1417875
If so, is there any way you would be willing to mail me the picture? I would gladly scan it and return it.

Re: Old off-road pics
Hello, I need help identifing which year these pictures are from. It is Mike Griswold, who designed and built race cars in the 60's and 70's. He called them "Grizzly" race cars. He raced off-road himself early on and then ended up just building the cars, later on. Roger and Rick Mears raced his cars at Ascot Park and other tracks and many drivers raced his cars at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the 70's. I have a bunch of early VW off-raod pictures, sorry it took me so long to find this thread. If any one out there remembers Mike or his Grizzly cars , let me know, I have a ton of questions and photo's I need help with.
These pictures should be from either 1968 or 1969 Baja 1000. I also would like an entry and result list for the same race. Any ideas?

Re: Old off-road pics
More "Grizzly" stuff. Early ad for the chassis. Notice the leaf spring front and rear suspension. No VW's parts ,but the cars did run VW motors and trans.
This was back in the early 60's.
Need help with a tandom "Grizzly" that raced the Mint 400 in 1973 also.Ran a Type 3 front end
Last picture was from a few weeks ago in Minnesota. Three Grizzly frames awaiting new life ! (let's hope)
