Esslinger Engineering. They make all sorts of hipo parts for this motor. Bring your check book.

    Re: 2.3 ford

The turbo 2.3 is what I want to do when it is time to make a prerunner, I plan on using a turbo that is popular among the nissan ricers called a "disco potato". It tops out at 350hp, but has zero lag so it feels just like a supercharger. Best of all it was meant to work on engines between 2.0l and 2.4l.

The SVO Mustang and Merkur XR4ti turbo engines would be a bolt-in if you don't have a heater box. If you do they still bolt-in but you need to do some surgery to the box. The OE turbo'd engines have piston oil squirters, the NA engines do not.

dont waste your time on the 4 cyl. swap it out to the 4.0 before you waste any more $$$ on it. the 4 cyl will be a night mare to tune and cost a bunch of $$$ to get any hp out of it. if you ever plan to race it turbos are illegal in all classes except the pre runnner class. the hypo 4 cyclinder will not be smog legal. just my two cents!!!

    Re: 2.3 ford

What is the weight difference between the 2.3 and the 4.0? It seems like the lack of parts for the 4.0 would make the 2.3 the all around better choice. After you throw all your parts into a 2.3 wont you end up with more power and less weight, which is the goal of any racer in any type of racing?

    Re: 2.3 ford

Work built a 2.3 for I-4 racing. Set on 90% of 'Kill' (intended to last a season of circle track racing) it made about 220HP at the flywheel using a single Holley 350CFM 2 bbl. *Might* have been 25-30 HP to be found in dual sidedrafts, rules only allowed the Holley.

    Re: 2.3 ford

If you really want to run the 2.3 and race go with Esslinger like mentioned before. You will spend a ton and the weight gains are minimal (with respect to off-roading). They are expensive like you wouldn't belive and powerful as all HELL. Swapping a 4.0 or 302 you will bolt on power cheaper and it has been done a thousand times in the off-road community and proven over and over. Up to you! But the reason you get the "Don't waste your time" is because it is a WASTE OF YOUR TIME. I know you said you can't buy a 4.0 or V8 but it would be cheaper thank Esslinger or a turbo in most cases so I hope cost is not the issue.

BTW how do you get zero lag out of a turbo, sounds like black magic to me but I am a naturally asp. kinda guy.
