Bruckman Car 503 race report:
Michelle started the race as driver with Vic co-driving and prerunning. By zoo road (RM 7) they had a noticeable lead over any other 5 car (started 3rd in class / # 503). The car looked much smoother then other similar vehicles at that point.
The first lap got finished with a 45mph average speed. There was a 2-3 minute pit stop for fuel and driver/co-driver change. The pit was understaffed and fueling was done by the drivers. The 45 mph average could have been faster with a better pit-stop.
Lap two was Vic driving and me (Klaus) as co-driver. The second lap was uneventful in terms of battles as most vehicles where scattered far apart on the course by now or out of the race. We passed a couple of slower vehicles with no incidents in a clean fashion. The PIN class 8 truck passed us in a hurry once. Since the gearing was numerically high we had to take it easy on the wide open sections in order not to not over rev the freshly build motor. Then towards the end of the second and final lap the right side axle snapped. We had no spare axle with us to change and no spare in the chase truck. While waiting for help we removed the two cv's and tried to lock the transmission out put on the passanger side in order to continue in "one wheel drive". That didn't work out as hopped, but was worth the try. Eventually we had someone tow us on the course towards the finish.About 100 meters before the finish line we cut the tow strap and proceeded to be pushed by a vehicle for some momentum and Michelle, Vic and myself pushed the vehicle under our own power over the finish line. CODE accepted us as official finishers and we ended up with a class win to boot. The next best class 5 finisher only made it to check 2 in the second lap with a slow average speed. Not sure if they called it quits then or ran out of time.
The car ran a Hi-tech Video onboard camera and the footage made it into the 4days action video that was ready for sale Sunday noon at the awards. You will also see some of the onboard shots in the Mexicali offroad TV production "DR Offroad TV" when they show the Code San Felipe 250 race. race-dezert.com will have some onboard highlights online during this week.
Overall a very good times event and thanks to The Bruckman family for the opportunity to be part of the team.
