    Question 500 down the coast.

Looking at the map it looks like the course doesn't skirt the ocean near Erendira. Can any one who has already preran tell me if it does go down the beach or not. Thats were I was planning on camping. Thanks.

    Re: 500 down the coast.

Prerunning opens this weekend. yes, the course is different than years past, how much different, I do not know, but I do know that when we put a 2004 Baja 500 map next to the 2005 map, there is clearly a difference in that area of the race course. It is too bad because that was my favorite section of race course to race on in all desert racing.

From what I've heard, the course will skirt inland north of Erindera and come out somewhere on the paved road leading into the town.

Is that that the exact quote? I swear it was a little different...

    See the attached map.

A stare and compare against the course map lets me believe that the course will come south through Tampico and then jog inland near El Buey.

As soon as the GPS track is out (today I still hope) we'll know for sure.

That's a pretty cool map of that area you have there Pat. Is that an Image capture from your GPS?

I've been on that section by the blue dot in Las Minas to El Buey to Punta San Ysidro. If they run through there, theres a big silt hole followed by a pretty big jump by the orange dot (right before a cattle guard). Thats some cool terrain in that little section, pretty scenic stuff, too bad there's no ocean view.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I heard Erindera didn't want the course to come through there town so it goes around it.

That's a scan from Baja Almanac.

I think the cattle guard you mention is up the hill from El Distiladero. There is a "watch for children" sign on that hill as you pass near some homes.

The blue dot is that wide area before you go up the hill.

The green dot is below Coyote Cal's.

The dotted road is one I am not familiar with. I never knew it was there.

From looking at the map and course notes, it won't be using the paved road that goes into town. It sounds like it is still dropping off the mesa on the south side of Erindira by Malibu beach, and then heading out the back way to San Vicente. It hits Hwy 1 around KM 100 +/-, and the road to Erindira is at KM 78. Good news. We should still be able to go to our friends beach house at Malibu Sur and be right next to the course.
