freeway rattle box!
An odd question for all you prerunner guys that don't tow to the races. I have a 95 f-150 that just wants to rattle apart on certain freeways. Example interstate 10 east bound. East of the 15 fwy. The road is pretty messed up there, and it is bumpy for any car but honestly my truck is trying to rattle apart. The truck is on 16" 2.5 king coils in front and 16" 2.5 king bypass' in the rear. I suspect that a valving adjustment in the rear bypass may help but don't know for sure. More/less rebound? More/less primary? I have only messed with the air in the shocks 90lbs, 10lbs, 55lbs. Not much of a difference.
I do realize that a truck "that" modified will never ride like a benz and the bypass shocks aren't meant to be adjusted for better fwy. driving but rattling my teeth loose is a bit much. Oh, there is no bed just a rear cage, deavers (spring pack was lightened) spare 37" tire and glass. Maybe not enough weight for the shocks to work? Any suggestions or others with this problem.

Re: freeway rattle box!
Put a couple spares in the bed you probably just need to add weight to the back. My truck rides really smooth with 2 spares in the back. If I take them out its really stiff, 200lbs helps alot.

My relatively stock 99 ranger gets bad through there, you're definately not alone.

Re: freeway rattle box!
1497 is right....the 10 freeway sucks all around.....
I have 18" triple bypasses with deavers on my Tacoma and I was having a lot of the same ride problem....the truck was bucking at about 65 mph and the faster I went the harder it got (especially in the #2 lane).....I had 150 psi in my shocks and bumped them up to 200 psi...it took a lot of the problem away and I still notice it but it's nowhere near as bad.....
If you don't have a Nitrogen tank, call me and come by my shop in Montclair and I'll give you a quick charge (909) 624-9930 or (909) 821-4741.....I'll do it for free for any RDC member....Nitrogen's cheap

Re: freeway rattle box!
I'm pretty sure I have 300/500 springs in the front. From what you guys have thown at me here, i think I'll go 150 (ntgn) in the shocks all the way around and grab a race spare from the shop. I will be making that run again next week. We'll see if that is the fix. I'll be putting a fuel cell in the truck just before the 500. If weight is the issue that should do it. Thanks for the offer ZT Fab and thanks for the help guys. I'll let you know how it turns out.
