    plastic set up "engine"

I was watching htat xtreme 4x4 show on spike to day and they are working on a ranger and are puting i beleive a 302 in it. they used what appeared to be a plastic motor to mock up there motormounts and such. it also appeared that the bolted the there transfer case to this to mock up there tranny cross memeber. so my question is where do you ge tthese mock up motors at? and does anyone know if they are avaliable in an LS1/2/6/7 whatever configuration? Are they worth buying? or would you guys just use the real motor and tranny to set up the cross members and motor mounts.

GM used to sell those. They are OK for general layout of things but you can only go so far. Here's a company that carries them. P-Ayr company http://www.pitstopusa.com/P-AYR_PRODUCTS.aspx. As I recall, the one from GM seemed a little more detailed.

    Re: plastic set up "engine"

The boys over @ Solo used one for engine mock up and saved them a ton of time from what they were telling me, only because not always do you have the motor built at the time of the truck being done. I think the money is worth it, i'm sure you could sell it when you are done with it to a shop, depending on what block we are talking about.

    Re: plastic set up "engine"

I have both a BB Chevy and a SB Chevy that I got from P-AYR through ebay on an overstock sale.....I paid about $200 for each of them. They are exact replicas and I have never had any problems with fitment from mock-up to final install.

IMO, they are worth every penny I paid for them since I use them a lot and I am a one man shop so I don't have an extra set of hands to help me manuever a real block around.....and since I also build a lot of hot rods, it's nice to be able to "gently" place one of these blocks in place when doing a motor conversion on an already painted car.

If you're not going to be doing a lot of engine installs with the mock-up blocks, they probably aren't worth the money.....
