5/1600 Coalition Baja Coalition
I have big news concerning the Baja Coalition' as some of you guys know I have said this would be my last year doing the coalition so I could focus more on racing and work. Wynn Deen Eric's dad will be taking over the coalition next year and he has some big plans that sound really cool. We were talking about getting all the 5/1600 drivers together and tweeking the rules to make our cars safer and possible a little faster without having to dump a lot of money into them (very minimal change). Wynn and I will make an announcement later on how we are going to do this. I know wynn will do a great job and we need to support him so we can bring recognition to the 5/1600 class we deserve. Thanks' Ron

At the Baja 500 contingency some guy was asking us to sign a petition to allow power steering in our class, does that have anything to do with the changes?

Re: 5/1600 Coalition Baja Coalition
I personally like not having power steering, and it is not one of the changes we were talking about. I like finishing a race and saying I did it the hard way. I peronally feel our cars are the most difficult to master in our sport. Some of the things had to do with brakes and suspension. More to come soon.

Just checkin, I agree with you though, no power steering will keep things interesting in this class, can't wait to see what the changes might be, I plan on taking over one of my friends 5/1600 in December

Re: 5/1600 Coalition Baja Coalition
I think power steering is something that we should be able to run in this class
if we want to , mainly for safety reasons due to the fact that the 5/1600's
are much more faster than they were when the rules were first put into place .
Some people are concerned with the cost , but that should'nt be an isssue because
the cost of power steering has greatly been reduced over the years .
And the safety advantages far out way the cost . And it would be good to have it as an option for those that choose to use it can and those that don't, won't have to .

That "some guy" you referred to was Tito Arambula, one of the top 5/1600 drivers of all time. He's been behind the wheel since back in the days of Andy Dervechelly and Carlos Iribe racing in the same class for 20+ years. Also the winner at San Felipe this season...
Tito circulated a "petition" for power steering on 5/1600 cars to all the teams racing at the 500 and was being sent to SCORE for the 06 season.
Its all good
