Radio weirdness

I had a very odd occurance the other day and I'm wondering if anyone has an explaination. I'm sitting in my truck, which is completely off except for the race radio. The race radio was is hooked up directly to the auxillary battery, which is seperated from the main power system by a relay when the truck is off. The race radio was on inadvertantly and had no microphone installed at the time.

So, truck off, FM radio off, Race radio on by aux. batt. power, and aux. battery on seperate circuit from the rest of the truck. I get a call from one of my race partners on his Nextel. I have verizon (from work). I pick up the phone and see who it is and about the same time my FM radio speakers (remember no power) start ringing loudly like a phone and blaring out the Nextel standard 'please hold while the Nextel subscriber blah blah blah' as if I'm calling him.

Well this startled the ** [I]¡Ay, caramba![/I]**** [I]¡Ay, caramba![/I]**** [I]¡Ay, caramba![/I]**** [I]¡Ay, caramba![/I]**** [I]¡Ay, caramba![/I]** out of me so I dumped the call to voicemail and turned off the race radio as soon as I figured out it was on. I'm not sure which action stopped my FM ghost.

Is this 1) explainable, 2) just a freak thing, or 3) have I done something wrong and am just waiting to die when my radios explode on the freeway?

I have had something close to the same thing happen. I have had my home stereo (with CD playing) not FM. and 2 seconds before my cell phone rings I can here it ring in the speakers. It has happened several times and others have been there so it wasn't just the whiskey. I have also had it happen in my truck. It only affected my sub. and I don't recall if the truck was running or If I had music on or not. I am guessing that the celular freq. must get caught up my the speakers sometimes. I'm not a radio guy so I am totally guessing. PCI Scott is probably the guy who would know exactly what causes that to happen. Then again maybe the devil lives in our stereo's!

I've had the buzzing speaker thing happen, but you said you could actually hear the nextel message(even though you were recieving not calling) through the speakers that sounds like Caspers' using up your minutes.

My computer speakers at work freak out ever time about 2 seconds before my Nextel rings or the radio part beeps, but I am positive there is something EVIL inside my computer too!

ha ha, mine does the same thing at work. I think it's some sort of listening/tracking device that Big Bro has installed in all comps.

funny thing about the buzzing speakers .. nextels do it , my cingular cell did it .. but my new verizon doesnt cause the buzzing ... wierd.

its all about the freq the phone and radio works on.. on my icom-v8000 it talk about moding it to work on cell freqs being a federal crime... i think it was just a fluke thing. i used to have nextell and i could tell when my phone was going to ring cuase it would cause any computer monitors with in 5 feet or so to flicker.
