Re: best prerunner to build?
I don't think you can beat a Bronco as a pre-runner when it comes down to it. . .too much good there to be surpassed by anything else. . .
. . .just my $.02 and what I will be building as my first street legal truck.

Doesn't matter if it's a bronco or not, if your driving it fast enough you should be coming close to flipping it.
In all honesty, I have had a bronco and an explorer. As far as stability in an SUV I give the nod to the bronco.

Re: best prerunner to build?
Personally, I think it all depends on YOUR preference on how you like to pre-run. Some racers want to pre-run is something very similar to their racer, that would determine whether you build a truck or a buggy. Some like to pre-run at close to race speeds, and are only concerned with MAJOR obstacles. Others want to go slow and look at different lines. Also, will it be a 1 day pre-run or a week plus Mexico pre-run, Much easier to camp out of a truck or Bronco than a buggy. The only constant is that everyone wants a RELIABLE vehicle that will get them back and the easier to maintain is another plus.

both quotes are right on.
i like my ranger. a bit small but easy to maneuver around. has probably the most bolt on high end parts selection from a full cab cage, 3/4 link back half’s, front bullet proof beams/radius arms. all you need to do is tie the cab cage to the front and tie it to the rear and you will have a great truck.
space is tight so i built in plenty of storage. large roof rack, storage boxes in the rear, a another removable rack over the rear cage. for the long trips i am getting one of these and mounting it over the rear bed cage.
