Shortening the throw of bump stops

Hi all. I've got an all around type vehicle. I use it to do everything from rock crawl to the dunes. Even hit the grocery store every once in a while just for fun.

Anyway, I've got poly bump stops right now. They're a bit hard on landings. I have a line on a set of kings. 4 for $600, which appears to be a pretty good deal, I'm having a hard time finding prices on the Kings.

The problem that I see is that I have my truck fairly low and I only have about 4" of up travel. So I'd be on the bump stops all the time. Can these be shortened or does somebody else sell a shorter one?

You have to machine a "spacer" that goes on the inside of the bumpstop. You can model them after the stock ones that are in there.

We made 1.5" ones for the same reason you need to. Very easy, if you have access to a mill.

My understanding is you also have to reduce the amount of oil in the bumpstop by the amout of oil the new spacer displaces. Correct?

Yes, but that kinda takes care of itself when you go to put it back together.

Jack, I'm thinking Billy means a lathe. Unless he's talking about using Rocketman's CNC mill. Would be a simple part for a manual lathe.

Last B1k RM mentioned this project, but I didn't get a grasp of exactly what he was doing.
