Which FM/HAM Radio do you use?
Which FM/HAM radio is everyone using? I am interested in going the FM route, as the CB just doesn't have the range.

Do you want to use it for race's and ham use? I got one about 6 month ago from http://www.hamradio.com/. They were great they help me with everything I needed. I also got a Yaesu FT-2800M right price and works like a champ.

Ham radios are for amateur radio use only and modifying them is a FCC violation. Its illegal. Even though common practice.
PCI is one of the sources in our sport to get your race radio from. You will get the best hands on service period.

Klaus is absolutely correct in everything he says. What he doesn't say is that one needs a license to operate in the business band, where race radios operate. How many of us have a license, or are properly operating under someone else's license? I think most of us are probably guilty of technical FCC violations. But we don't want to go too far into that lest we ruin it for everyone.

Re: Which FM/HAM Radio do you use?
I went to the local FCC office years ago to try and find out what we could do to legally register a freq. for race use. The people working there couldn't even tell me what we needed, and just handed me a huge book of reulations and told me to look it up. Needless to say, I gave up on that plan. I just got 10 freq.'s in the low 450. range here at work licensed for $700.

Klaus I could be wrong but I don't believe that FCC laws apply in Mexico? So I wonder if you only use it in Mexico for races and here for HAM are you still braking some FCC law?

In Mexico you need a permit for CB's, HAM, hell sometimes the Federales will bust your chops for a 2 way walkie -talkie. But than again that depends on how much they want to search you.
