tundra o2 sensor issues
i recently bought an 01 tundra, which was fine for 2 weeks. then, the check engine light came on. the dealer checked it out, said it was an o2 sensor, cleared the code, and sent me on my way. the light came on again, 5 mins later. i turned around and went back, and they ordered a new sensor. they installed it today, and cleared the code, and i left. light came on again, so on my way home, i went to my local toyota dealer. they checked it, said the o2 sensor was fine, and cleared the code. the light came on again, 5 mins after leaving.
anyone know if this is a common problem, or a recall type issue, or anything like that? anywhere to look for such a thing?
gracias!!

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
I know there is an "extended warranty" on the o2 sensor, 7 years or 90,000 miles.

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
Gary - I have a 2002 Tundra and had the same problem at 69,000 miles. It was definitely the 2 or 3 o2 sensors. There is more than just that one sensor so I have been told. At least when I went to my dealer, they recognized the problem and fixed one other thing associated with it.
If you want I will dig through my receipts and will post what service work they performed. You may want to take that to your dealer. Since you are in OC also, try taking it to Rancho Santa Margarita Toyota off of Banderas and Empressa Blvd.
I'll try to post back tomorrow.

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
If you have an exhaust leak it will throw an O2 code as well - might check that out as well.

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
i have an 01 and it had a recall on the exhaust headers. threw a light, they replaced the right side, 2 weeks later, threw a light, they replaced the left side. i was under warranty, but that shouldn't matter since it was recalled.

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
There is no recall on O2 sensors on tundras. There is a TSB for updated main O2 sensors and the warranty has been extended on those 2 sensors, the sub o2 sensors are not included in the tsb. The codes for the updated sensors are, P0155 and P0135, depending which bank the bad sensor is on. Just take the truck back to the dealer like Matt said and they should have to fix it. Especially if you paid a diagnosis fee. If its under warranty then they need to replace it anyways. If they give you hassles, you can make the trek to hemet and i can check it out for you. Does your receipt say what codes the truck had, it should. Colin.

Re: tundra o2 sensor issues
i've done a ton of searching online, and found it to be a common issue.
I bought the truck from a Nissan dealer, which is where they installed the new sensor. there's no code on the nissan service paperwork to tell which side it is.
I called them back yesterday with the info i've found out, and they suggested to take it to a toyota dealer, since they have no toyota info but the basics, and i did pay to continue the toyota factory warranty for another 50k miles...
Yotatech, do you have any info on the TSB? i'd like to take a copy/number into the dealership with me, so they don't hassle me and act like they don't know about it. I've read there's an upgraded version of the o2 sensor available, and that's what the toyota dealer installs...is this true??
thanks for all the help!
