Toyoyta steering box splines
Does anybody know what size the splines are on a solid axle toyota power steering box? It measures .690 and has 36 splines. A 36 spline .625 joint was way to small, and a 48 spline .750 joint was way to big. What else is there? I dont think that a 36 spline .750 joint would be much smaller, but I couldnt find one to try. Any help is appreciated.

What are you try to swap over to?

Re: Toyoyta steering box splines
I am using the box instead of a $1200 power rack. The box was free to me, and I was able to get very low bumpsteer with my pitman arm design. The problem is I cant attach my steering shaft to it because nothing aftermarket fits on there, and the stock one is hideous, and visable outside the body.
FWIW I was able to achieve almost 21" of travel with this steering box and stock 5 lug toyota spindles with stock lower balljoints and upper 3/4" misaligned heims. Total cost fro the front end is at 10 3/4" x 3/4" heims

I would assume that since it's a Toyota box that it's a metric size........
.690 is almost 18mm (.700+-), so I would guess that it's an 18mm? jm2c

11/16x36
I have ordered them direct from borgenson universal joints (east coast) as well as flamming river (phoenix, AZ). probably around $75-80 each.

Re: Toyoyta steering box splines
No its not on a pickup, its on the front of a buggy. The arms are center mounted and the track width is around 78". I got this travel with 5" of clearance at full bump. Funny thing is the limiting factor is the upper heim, not the baljoint. I'll take some pictures someday when I buy a camera, it will be on the desert before long,
Thanks Dan for the tip. I didnt see the joint listed on the flamming river website, and I know Sweet doesnt show it in their catalog. I just read that you measure the shaft around the outside of the splines, and when I went and measured it, I got .6875 on the Kragen digital calipers. Thats a smack on the head to what I should have known all along. To make a short story long, Borgeson says they stock more sizes than whats on their site, so I will give them all a call tomorrow. Thanks again Dan.
