Nitrogen tank setup deal
Playing off another thread I decided to start my own I guess I could have used the other one but this is completly different. I want a nitrogen setup in a medium sized bottle for filling up shocks every once in a while, but mostly for airing up and down. I would like to have this for the 1k so I can again air up after I get done with off road. I just want a meduim sized bottle with a decent regulator to 200 psi should be good. What should I expect to pay for the bottle, regulator, hose and any other misc. items that go along. I would also like to get one of those "shields" that they put around the regulator like the powertanks use. I do not need a bottle going off if I roll. Also any body have the hook ups? Im in Corona. Thanx.

Nitrogen tanks don't have anything to attach a gaurd to. I guess you could make something to clamp to the bottle? CO2 tanks have a gaurd that is held on with a snap ring. I can post pics if you want to see.

Re: Nitrogen tank setup deal
okay my tank was "rented" for $60 and they fill it for $11. A hose that Paul (ZTFab) recomended would be about $40. A regulator up to 350 that I just bought was $65. $10 for a good chuck and you are done. Total cost was $185. It is a medium size tank (4.5' tall) and I actually used my argon/co2 tank so you can get the guard. Hope that helps.

Re: Nitrogen tank setup deal
So the tank doesnt really matter what it is for as long as it can hold the required psi? So Ill just buy an argon/co2 tank for the guard. Would I be able to pick this up at any local welding supply? And what do u mean rented? I need a tank a little smaller than 4.5' tall. It will get tied down in the rear of my prerunned 4runner. Thanx. Hoseman is a little farther down the road than where I want to go so wouldnt G&J be able to fix me up? They seem to have everything!

Re: Nitrogen tank setup deal
G&J is where I am going to go to get my hose. "rented" means bought...they call it a rental because you just trade it in and get a whole new bottle when you need a refill. They don't really ask for it back. And yes any welding shop will be perfect. The smaller tanks are even less to fill and rent. By the way if you want a little more safety spend a little more on the regulator. They have some nice ones. Since nitro is not flamable and I will not be doing any off-roading with it I went the cheap route.

Re: Nitrogen tank setup deal
Why would you want to use nitrogen to air up and down (tires)? I understand the benifits of using it over long term use, but why not just get one of those air tanks.

Re: Nitrogen tank setup deal
Use compressed air at home for tires, CO2 in the field; CO2 for air tools in the field and Kegs at home. Nitrogen is for shocks. Nitrogen in your tires is a waste of money on a desert car; you’ll never notice the change in pressure with air in the tires as they heat up verses nitrogen. CO2 however will be less stable in tires and pressure fluctuations will be noticeable with temperature changes. In the field when airing down and airing up, it’s not that critical so CO2 works the best because of the volume of gas CO2 provides verses compressed air or nitrogen. A 20 lb CO2 bottle (CO2 is measured in pounds because it is stored as a liquid) will provide approximately 173 cubic feet of gas with a working pressure of 600-800 psi. The same bottle will only hold 50 cubic feet on nitrogen at approximately 2000 psi. You’ll be able to fill more than three times as many tires with CO2. A good welding supply shop can tell you and sell you everything you need.
