    Toyota Bedcages

I will be building a bedcage this weekend after thanksgiving and I have been researching how people have been doing Toyota bedcages with the stock fuel tank (and more importantly, the crossmember) in place. I can figure it out on friday when we bump the truck out however, I was looking for some pictures to get an idea of how I want to build the cage and I couldn't find much with the stock tank. The truck will have...

    18" sway-a-ways
    62" deavers
stock fuel tank and crossmember in place

Really I would just like to see any pictures of angles you guys were able to get with the stock gas tank crossmember, regardless of the stroke of the shock, that's gonna end up where it ends up.

I also was thinking about mounting the shocks off the back of the axle so I could sneak them lower and angle them more (bringing them even lower) but I am worried about axle wrap so today I thought about doing one in front and one in back, just like factory but with the same mounting point up top...anyone ever done that...advantages, disadvantages, significant improvements in axle wrap?? Or anyone have both shocks mounted of the back? Are there noticable problems with axle wrap?

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Here is a link to a couple of pictures of what I did on my pre-runner/chase vehicle. It allows me to still carry a lot of equipment, but you are right, in deep sand it has some wheel hop. I usually just put it in 4 wheel drive and that problem usually goes away.

    Re: Toyota Bedcages

    Here's a '91 Toyota 4x4 I did for a customer........

I retained the stock gas tank by removing it from the right side of the frame rail and turning it perpendicular to the frame. The frame rails needed to "convinced" open about a 1/4" of an inch to allow the tank to drop between them. I left the original x-member in place (used to be behind the tank and now is in front of it). He didn't have 62's on it, only the deaver factory replacements....but it worked great. I put a storage tray between the cab and the factory x-member for gear, tools or an ice chest.

This isnt the greatest picture, but its the only one I have. This is 62s with the stock tank and crossmember. The shocks are 16" kings, mounted off the rear of the axle with a slight angle forward. The axle wrap is better than it was stock, and even better after Greg revalved the shocks.
