My bug(ed) clutch
I was working on the pedal assembly on my baja and my clutch cable came unhooked. I finally got the thing back on but now the pedal is very stiff and I can't disengage the clutch. I re-checked the cable to make sure it wasn't binding in the clutch tube and everything looks ok. Everything is new, bowden tube, cable, clutch, and the tube in the tunnel has been re-welded.
It felt like the clutch lever on the trans axle was where the resistance was happening so I pulled the engine to inspect the TO bearing. TO bearing and the arms were all fine. With engine off I could operate the clutch pedal with the normal range of motion. Everything on the engine side looked fine. Not sure how to test anything on the clutch with the engine removed from the car though.
I've been through hell for the last two weeks working on this car. Before the cable came off the clutch was working perfectly.
Any of you bug experts out there I can call to help me troubleshoot this weird problem? I was planning on taking the car to the MORE race this weekend but this situation has already cost me 2 days and I still have other things I need to work on.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: My bug(ed) clutch
Early in the pedal motion does it feel like you're "climbing uphill"?
If so then I'll venture that the loop on the end of the cable isn't seated quite right on the pedal's hook.
I pull the cable fwd and out of the hole in the tunnel, slip it over the pedal's hook and settle it in the correct place. Then I put one of those twisty-ties used for closing the bread bag around the "pin" of the cable's loop and the backside of the pedal's hook.
Then it's just a matter of carefully pushing the cable back down the tube in the tunnel until you can thread in the pedal group bolts.

My opinon is worth what you paid me for it.

I'll pull the pedal assembly and have a look at that.

Re: My bug(ed) clutch
sounds like what was said above..cable on on the pedal hook correctly. if you can get someone to help you, take the pedal assemblly out and then put cable on the hook and have some one pull on the cable at the tranny end to keep it tight while you put the bolts in to hold the pedal assembly. even better if they can feed it thru the clutch lever when the pull it so that you have less chance of it coming off when you try and feed it thru later. this is made easier in baja's by cutting a hole in the tunnel on the opposite side of the pedals so that you can see that the cable is correct..also makes it easy to change the cable without removing the pedal assembley.
if its in control...your going to slow.
