so its been about 5 years since this discussion. How many new 8's built since then? how many built to the spirit, how many built to the extreme of the rules? Notching, channeling, tilting are all now legal. what does everyone think? If you cant beat em join em? Personally my fave is the Olliges/Newhan 78 door slammer! that is a class 8! There will be another vintage door slammer 8 racing mid 2012!(cant wait) hopefully the class is really starting to grow again!
wow, old thread.![]()
LOORRS ROOKIE of the YEAR-- Unlimited UTV 2009

An epic thread.. My truck was racing two years after the last post in feb 06, built to the spirit and letter of the score rules at the time. Lowering the cab has merit, but I like running off-the-shelf headers and under-cab plumbing and exhaust. If I build another one, I still won't notch the frame. You probably won't lose a race because the frame wasnt notched. It will always come down to the basics - breakage, rolling, or poor setup, not the lack of 3 inches of uptravel.

Its not so much the Gain of 3" of uptravel,,,,
lowering the back end by a couple of those inches makes a big difference.
So, I was under the impression that Ogilies truck raced Sportsman at BWDC.
Did Casey allow it to run Class 8 at Henderson?
Rswenson,
The new truck ran sportsman in the morning and 8 in the afternoon.
It won't fail because of me!
Thanks Mark,
Your builds/projects have been inspirational.
Thank you for sharing them.
Back on subject, is it safe to assume the SCORE legal builds will be accepted in BITD now?
Or is it a done deal and I've missed the news?
Agreed, but the hang-up is that SCORE (apparently) has no roof/body height requirement, making possible a 6-7-8+" body drop, that does not fit BITD rules. (through 2011 at least)
On the positive side, there does appear to be a bit of a resurgence of the class the last couple of years, which is great.
Maybe opening the rules is a good thing?
A question, what is the fastest 8 truck/driver out there right now, and how have the 8 trucks been finishing compared to the rest of the field? It seems crazy to me that the 8's start so far back!
Mark, is the Olliges truck channeled at all? it appears to be sitting pretty close to stock? Bad **ĦAy, caramba!****
