I'm having this image of Trophy Trucks showing up in 1450... kinda like when Scott ran Jet Blue that time.

Re: Class 8 frame rail rules

have any teams been caught w/ modified frames. i learnd from sum builders, that a 1/8th or almost a 1/16th piecut in the frame where the body mount is, equals almost 6" in the back of the frame rails. they then plate over it and place the downtube for the cage in taht location to cover it up even more.

on a side note, i saw roger meirs(sp) old class 8 chevy weds while picking up sum 16" 2.5. it has the canteilver setup w/ the shocks right above the rearend housing. the frame looked diffrent to me, but im a ford guy not a chevy guy, but it looked not notched, but narrowed or sumtin. not sure if that is/was a legal truck but it looked built..

With that mentality though, I guess we could also make 2 TT classes for those guys that just can't keep up with the faster TTs. Oh wait.... This is racing. - Dan Vance

This is the PIN truck right? What about wheel base for starters? It has RG glass on it which eaquals 125" wheelbase. There were no fords built that year with that wheel base. Go look the truck over a little closer, there are many more things illegal with it.

    Possible proposed rule change/clarification:

Top of roofskin must be factory height and factory angle measured from frame rail top. Windshield opening must be factory size or smaller (for visors) and be factory distance from top of roofskin.

Let everyone use glass cabsides if they want, just make sure the height is regulated compared to the frame rail. Of course it all means nothing if the rules aren't enforced.

But the problem is, does SCORE, SNORE, BITD, etc. have the stock truck specs on file to check these things? My guess prob. not but that's just a guess. How about people using a FORD frame with a Chevy cab and engine? Ever think about that because maybe the FORD frame is less in height? How many people could notice a different frame? My guess not many if any.

There are many things that can be done, but if the rules are not heavily inforced, they are going to cntinually build a illegal vehicles.

Like in my class...5 Open, if they aren't checking wheelbase at the finish line, why not build a car with a 108'' or 109'' wheelbase at right height. You can't tell by looking at the car whether or not it's exactly 105.5'' at ride height...

Re: Class 8 frame rail rules

I agree that uniform rules enforcement is the best, but it's not easy to do. IMO there really needs to be one Tech person per class, with total oversight from the head tech person (Savage in this case). By having one person more or less in charge of each class the trends and creative readings of the rules don't get lost in the debris of trying to manage all of the classes.
I don't see SCORE ponying up for that kind of manpower.
Additionally, finding enough of the fair and ultra-consistant people needed for each of these positions would be a real challenge.

Re: Class 8 frame rail rules

Keep in mind I'm a noob here so I may throw out ideas that already didn't work......

Seems like this is a good place for the class to take care of itself. I've heard of the "class 8 coalition" but don't know what it is or what it's for but maybe the racers themselves become more involved with enforcement somehow. Maybe similar to the way protruck works? Do other classes have situations similar to this? 16's maybe?

One potential pitfall is that current racers seem to have a good bit of "I look the other way with your truck, you look the other way with mine" going on which is fine since they're the ones paying entries and racing for money, but it's hard for a newcomer to get in and know what to build.

"I have heard of the C8C but dont know what it is".

As a former c8c member, I can say it is a really good idea that doesnt work for a host of reasons. One small one is that if you are on AOL you cant get the email that are auto sent out to all that are on the list. This is the reason I say I am a former member. The biggest reason that it isnt any anything more that a private chat room is becouse every c8c owner/driver on it has a differant idea of what they want to do. In other words, no one can get on the same page as another. Take Patelli, Patchanski and my self. None of us really know for sure when we can race again so what good does it do to try to plan something.

I had a friend tell me he knew a guy that built a Chevy Class 8 but ran a Ford motor because Ford sponsored it. I didn't believe him, and told him that, but he assured me they got to race the truck. I guess that illustrates your point.
