Race Radio Help
I'm looking to buy a race radio for my truggy. I want something decent but I don't want to spend a million bucks. I basically want it to be able to call base camp and talk to any other cars i may be cruising around with. I currently have 4 PCI headsets in my car with the PCI intercom so it would be nice to get something that would wire into that system.
I was thinking about getting the ICOM one that PCI has on their website. Anybody know anything good or bad about that product or have any other recommendations?
I also found this one online too that is about the same price as the one PCI shows but it looks like you get a lot more.

Re: Race Radio Help
IGGY stick with the PCI Icom 121 mobile, it is a commercial band VHF FM 2-way that is designed for the frequencies we use in off-road racing and they work great! The V8000 is an amateur band radio that has to be illegally modified to work in the frequency range we use in racing. The V8000 will not put out full power or receive as well on the higher frequencies and if you shop around you can get a much better price on it at ham radio outlet on the v8000. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas; Santa says you get what you pay for!

But isn't the V8000 a 75 watt radio and the ICOM is a 50 watt radio?

Re: Race Radio Help
Do a search on this topic, it has been discussed before and you should be able to find all the info you need to make a educated disicion on what radio you want and why! Not trying to discurage you from posting questions, it is just that there are different opinions on this and some of the people on the board that are very knowledgeable about the topic don't reply to every question about this but have in the past and given all the info so it is there to read! Now I just need to learn how to type and spell, how do you use spell check on your posts?

Re: Race Radio Help
PCI......Best support and service period. Get the best one you can afford, there
is a difference.
We run the Kenwood's in a couple or our chase trucks and there is NO comparison.

Re: Race Radio Help
I have a question that kinda has to do with radios and what not. We are starting to compete this season, do we need to registar a freq with PCI to be legal?
