Desert Tires
I am looking for a recommendation for which tires are best/most popular with the desert crowd? I have a WR450 which is used for desert riding and prerunning. The bike is also street legal, although it won't see much asphalt. Thanks...

Re: Desert Tires
I like the dunlop 739 rear, and a 756 front. They're on a 96 CR250, with all the desert garb.

I wouldn't recommend the Maxxis for the 450. It is a softer compound better suited for something like my XR250. A better tire for the 450 would be something like a Dunlop D739 or 756. They have a slightly harder compound that will stand up to the power better.

Re: Desert Tires
i just put a set of dunlop 952's on my ktm front and rear and they seem to last a little better than the 756's.

Re: Desert Tires
I just put a maxxis IT on my XR650R. I have about 50 on road miles and just a little off road miles on them. They are holding up pretty well. I would recommend these, plus they are priced really good.

Re: Desert Tires
Thanks for all the recommendations. Looks like time to go shopping. Any recommendations on where to buy?
Thanks again,
Ron
ps. I am curious. Does Team Honda run "off the shelf" tires or some sort of prototype tires?

Re: Desert Tires
maxxis ITs are great tires but chunk and the edges break fast but if you dont care about that they last a long *** time.
Maxxis HT's are for hard pack and suck in most desert riding.
Dunlop 739 AT or Maxxis Desert IT in the rear and a 756 up front is the weapon of choice.
The desert IT has a harder carcass and chunks less but sucks for moto sicne the side wall is too hard and doesnt flex.
I run maxxis desert IT or 739AT in the rear and a 756 up front but I change the front often.
The 739, maxxis HT or a warn edge maxxis IT in the front are a nitemare unless you like the front end skating and washing out.
Soft to intermediate tires work best in the desert but the softer they are the faster they wear.
Honda runs off the shelf tires.

Re: Desert Tires
Interesting. I was just looking at what tires to put on my XR250L next. I'd about decided that a 739 AT rear and a 756 front would be the way for me to go. Whatever the front is now (might be a 739) skates & washes badly.

My opinon is worth what you paid me for it.

Re: Desert Tires
I have a maxxis IT on the back of my XR250 and it gets mad hook up. I'll see how long it lasts since I toasted my last Bridgestone in about 4 rides. hehe
I ride fast.
